Vandersteen Treo CT vs Mag 3.7i speakers Compare them both to the Eminent Technology LFT-8b, which combines the strengths of both, while mitigating their shortcomings.
What makes tape sound better than vinyl ? Doug Sax proved the superiority of direct-to-disk LP's over tape recording way back in the early 70's. Take a direct mic feed from a band playing live, record it onto the best tape machine you have (even the best in the world, that of Water Lily's...
Malcolm Young...... Rhythm guitar, a dead art. After Mike Bloomfield, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Peter Green, and finally Jimi Hendrix became the model for guitar playing, no one was content being a mere rhythm guitarist anymore (except John Lennon). Malcolm was the best!
Need recommendations for inexpensive power cord "Dave's not here man" ;-) .
Album Recommendations for Magnepans Stevie Wonder’s Talking Book album comes to mind. One of the Maggies greatest strengths are their punchy mid-and-upper-bass (most Maggies don’t play the 20Hz-40Hz bottom octave of deep bass), which this album is full of. Stevie plays drums on the ...
Do classical CDs made from early analog tapes sound better on your system than new CDs? To add to Geoff's statement, there is no guarantee that every channel of a multi-track recorder in a studio was in phase with every other channel, whether because of a phase reversal in a microphone or in the recorder's electronics. Listen to the ...
Do classical CDs made from early analog tapes sound better on your system than new CDs? Do I really have to state the obvious?: To put music that was recorded in the analog domain onto a CD or SACD, the signal MUST be digitized. There are some fine sounding CD's and SACD's, so to say it is a stupid idea seems odd to me.
Greatest rhythm sections dhpeck---Not to be contrary, but rhythm section is a term for the drummer and bassist (and sometimes pianist) in a band, the band's guitarist not being part of that section. There are exceptions, such as Steve Cropper of Booker T & The MG's, w...
Pairing Planar Speakers With A Subwoofer (Eminent Technology) Mitch, the F25 is indeed an excellent sub, and will work quite well with the ET LFT-8b. I have a pair of F15HP’s (DIY version---I made my own 4cu.ft. enclosures), which have a single 15 woofer to the F25’s dual 15’s. Same sq, but the F25 has great...
input impedance load on a cartridge. Keith Herron is a proponent of "infinite" loading of mc cartridges. Gauging by atmasphere’s excellent post above, one can conclude Herron pre’s are also stable designs. Loading of mm and mi cartridges is a different matter.
How much difference could a simple Banana plug make? Amateur, willemj? Rather pejorative! Consumer is the accepted term.
$3,000 Planar Speakers Apogee’s require an amp with some serious current delivery, and the ability to drive a 1 ohm load. You can forget about tubes in that case, Mitch, except perhaps the Music Reference RM-200 Mk.2.
Suggestion on XLR Cables Some electronics made for home/audiophile use are recommended by their designer/manufacture to be used in balanced mode. There are other reasons for balanced operation than merely to drive long runs of interconnects. Ralph Karsten of Atma-Sphere i...
$3,000 Planar Speakers Mitch, it was I who recommended the Eminent Technology LFT-8b. They actually retail for only $2499, an incredible bargain. Harry Weisfeld of VPI recently said the LFT has the best midrange of any speaker he has ever heard. I wouldn’t go that far, ...
Great music few are aware of. Any genre. There is an absolutely incredible album from 1997 that few people are aware of: Greetings From Planet Love, by The Fraternal Order Of The All. The album’s title and the group’s name should give you a hint as to what the music and lyrics sound like... |
