Whats on your turntable tonight?
I left out one detail of Levon's remarkable playing in "Chest Fever". By not crashing on the downbeat (the 1) that introduces the next bar of the song, Levon has actually changed the construction of the song---from a bar-to-bar construct to a larg...

tostadosunidos---It was in ’69 I saw and heard Dewey live. Buffalo Springfield in parenthesis was to identify Dewey as the drummer in that group, not to say I saw them in ’69. The group in ’69 was named The New Buffalo, and Dewey was the only rema...
Crossover 101 Nebie Dalquist DQ-10 Help
I'm not familiar with the DQ-10, but the DQ-LP1 is specifically and solely for adding a subwoofer to any loudspeaker. Any x/o included as part of the loudspeaker itself is to provide filtering for it's integral drivers, not for adding a sub as is ...
Help ... Totally stuck (subwoofer topic)
Could be a phase issue. Brian Ding discusses this somewhat complicated issue in the technical section of the Rythmik Audio website.
HOW TO POSITION 2 PAIRS OF SPEAKER FOR ALTERNATE LISTENING
The biggest problem is that you may want each pair of speakers in the same location in the room when being listened to. Better to put the unused pair in another location in the house. If the unused pair must be in the room, short the speakers by r...

Yes, shadorne, Joe Cocker---I knew I was leaving out somebody! You possess musical wisdom to an unusual degree, my man, and your words, with which I agree 100%, were a pleasure to read. "Playing for the song" is the musicianship I crave, listen fo...

Ray Charles sets a standard white men can aspire to, unlike Howlin' Wolf, who is unreachable. The middle ground is Big Joe Turner, the greatest male singer I ever saw and heard live. Backed by The Blasters!
Anybody still using soft rubber isolation devices?
I may be mistaken, but I believe lots of normal people just make do with the stock rubber feet components come fitted with ;-). It has been argued that a component "voiced" with it's stock rubber feet won't sound as it's designer intended with oth...
aluminum platter vs Acrylic not what I thought
engineears---No need to redrill off-center LP holes for the Townshend trough; the side-to-side movement of the arm/cartridge is at a low enough frequency to be unaffected by the damping fluid in the trough. The fluid’s viscosity was chosen to allo...
Shelby Lynn & Allison Moorer / Not Dark Yet
As I said, Steve rubs some the wrong way ;-). I like the fiction book he wrote, I’ll Never Get Out Of This World Alive. That is of course a line from the great Hank Williams song of the same title. The live show Steve did with Del and his band was ...
Shelby Lynn & Allison Moorer / Not Dark Yet
jafant, you’re fond of understatement ;-) ! Steve’s quite an interesting character, very opinionated and outspoken, rubbing some people (including Del McCoury, who cancelled the remaining shows in a tour he and his band were doing with Steve when ...
Why is it so easy to tell the difference between live and recorded music?
Tom, have you heard a Direct-To-Disk LP played by a Decca/London cartridge? That's the closest to live I've heard. Very dynamic, and "immediate".

Thanks fellas, I'll look for both. I agree loomis, Brooker is one of the better UK singers. He, Van Morrison, little Stevie Winwood, Steve Marriott, Paul Jones (Manfred Mann), and Paul Rodgers come to mind. All obviously indebted first and foremos...

I loved Procol Harum's first three albums at the time of their release, and still do. Then organist Matthew Fisher left the group, and their style and sound changed dramatically. The fourth album---Home---was not at all to my liking, Robin Trower’...
Ikea Eket shelves with a large vinyl collection?
Yep shadorne, the Simple Woods cube is really nice; I love Baltic Birch. But to get the linear footage I got in the EKET for $500, the equivalent Simple Woods would be $3200. I would rather spend the $2700 difference on LP’s themselves.
