What exactly is colored sound? With Gordon, you knew exactly what he was looking for in hi-fi equipment, what his criteria was. I took his belief of the lack-of-coloration being the number one priority of a reproduction system as self-evident, also feeling that the reproduction...
What direction is VPI headed? A table without a removable armboard? What if, like myself, one doesn’t care for unipivot arms? There are a lot of older VPI tables out there that DO have a separate arm board, and they’re pretty cheap to buy. VPI can do whatever they want, no one...
What exactly is colored sound? When the original audiophiles in the 1950's coined the term "coloration", they used it in the same way video technicians do now with video projectors and monitors---in terms of the accurate reproduction of color "temperature". In video, that means...
the greatest pop song ever? Badger: "One Hit Wonders Of The World Unite". A great, great Power Pop song with a killer hooky chorus. Cheap Trick’s "Surrender" is another, as is The Rubinoos' "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend".
Latest bin find.....Elton John I went to Tom Ports apartment in Sherman Oaks (a couple of blocks from mine, just off the Ventura Blvd. that Tom Petty mentions vampires walking down in "Free Falling") a couple of times in the 90's, buying a French pressing of the Magical Mystery...
Looks like a new Magnepan speaker is coming!!! Magnepan has changed to a different glue. The delamination problems of the past are just that.
Looks like a new Magnepan speaker is coming!!! Yup ;-). My T-IVa have the two bass panels hinged together, with the tweeter/midrange panel separate. The current MG20.7 is around the same price as the Sanders ESL, and that is a tough choice, they're both great speakers imo.
Any integrated's phono that can compete with $2.5k - $3k outboard one ? The phono section of both the Atma-Sphere MP-3 and EAR-Yoshino 868.
Looks like a new Magnepan speaker is coming!!! Looks like a modern version of the old Tympani-IVa. Should sound killer!
I Find Primalunas Ugly. How about You? Is there an alternative? Check out the tasteful and understated looks (like a Scandinavian home!) of the Music Reference RM-200 amplifier. It also sounds real good, Michael Fremer putting it in Class A in Stereophile’s Recommended Components list.
Magnepan Mods The Peter Gunn Maggie mod (Magnestand) is rather controversial. He not only removes the magnetic-planar drivers from the Magnepan MDF frames and installs them in real nice hardwood ones, he abandons the stock cross-over and uses a completely redes...
Whats on your turntable tonight? shadorne, stoked you like it! I’ve been following Chris for years, both solo (some albums on Sugar Hill) and in The Desert Rose Band (a great group, with not only Chris, but also Herb Pedersen and Telecaster master John Jorgenson of The Hellecaste...
Whats on your turntable tonight? Speaking of Petty, he produced and performs on Chris Hillman's new album, which is available on LP and CD. I went to buy it today, and my store (Music Millennium in Portland) was sold out of both!
What tonearm will better mine? Harold, KLE makes it kind of confusing, with their name designation. The RCA jack line ascends in this order: Classic Harmony, Copper Harmony, Silver Harmony, Pure Harmony, and at the top Absolute Harmony, which is what I sent Vic. PM me for more ...
What tonearm will better mine? Yup Harold, the Terminator is a fascinating arm. I have one on order, should be ready maybe later this month. Mine is being made with an uninterrupted run of silver wire from cartridge tags to RCA plugs, a pair of KLE Absolute Silver I just shippe... |
