The Aaron Copland / Bob Dylan connection
Not yet jafant, but I did look over the LP and CD boxsets at my record store during the week, and the double-disc releases as well. The boxsets contain a lot of material---unreleased songs, out-takes, live recordings. I really liked the Christian ...
Suggestion on XLR Cables
Mogami Gold is about the same as Canare. Both are standard cables in pro recording studios.
Dylan live
Nope Geoff, not a word to the audience. I myself prefer that to show biz bs. I last saw Dylan in 2001 (on the "Love And Theft" tour) at The Pantages Theater in Hollywood, a great Art Deco room that seats only a couple thousand. Great show---Dylan ...
Whats on your turntable tonight?
LOVE Planet Waves, reubent! The recording is unusual for the time, rather under-produced, with little "sweetening" and/or electronic processing, including reverb. And The Band are very sympathetic to Dylan's music, playing it the way it should be ...
Veterans Day
I’m putting my money where my mouth is, performing gratis tonight at a benefit for Vets, all proceeds going to a local organization. Vets, including my sister, can attend for free.
Don't You Just Love It When...
Cheap Trick reference Kiss in "Surrender".
David Crosby If Only I Could Remember My Name
Didn't Classic Records do a pressing of the album?
Does anyone use a tuner?
Yup Nonoise, Lake Oswego is still here, though my sis tells me it's known by some locals as Lake no negroes ;-) . And the anti-California transplant sentiment is alive and well. Since my sis has been here since 1971, I have an out. Actually, I liv...
Does anyone use a tuner?
Me too, nonoise. I'm new to the Portland (Oregon) area, and Bernie's really popular here in the Northwest. Portland's slogan---on buildings all over town---is "Keep Portland weird" ;-). I was a little uncomfortable, however, with the "All lives ma...
Whats on your turntable tonight?
I just saw that Dylan's "Love And Theft" is coming out on LP on December 8th, a double disc on Columbia. Great album imo. How are current Columbia pressings (I've never bought one)?
Is tonearm cable the most important cable in the system ?
Steve, I’m a long-time Decca/London pickup user, on-and-off since 1972. I have had a Super Gold Mk.7 mounted on a Zeta arm (which replaced a Cardas-rewired Rega 300), itself bolted onto a Townshend Audio Elite Rock (Mk.2) table for awhile now. The...
What's in your CDP tonight? the minority report
I really, really liked Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. At first. But there was something about them, or more correctly, about him, that didn't wear well with me. I at first just lost interest, eventually coming to actually dislike him. I know a...
Help! Tweaking My Lovan Rack for new Big A**ed Transrotor Turntable!
prof---While MDF is cheap and easily obtained, it’s not a very good material for a shelf. Think about it; MDF is sawdust and glue mixed together---somewhat non-resonant, but not very stiff. 13-ply Baltic Birch ply (19mm, or 3/4" thick) is very sti...
Is tonearm cable the most important cable in the system ?
I don’t know yet Steve, the arm just left the UK yesterday. It will be here in about a week. I too am an admirer of Jeff Spall’s Audiomods Arm, one I recommend anyone in the market for a very high-value pickup arm at least checkout. I would rather...
Is tonearm cable the most important cable in the system ?
Steve (williewonka), I happen to have just done that. I had Vic at Trans-Fi install a pair of the KLEI Absolute Harmony RCA’s (that I sent him) on the ends of the 1-piece silver loom with which he wired the Terminator Arm he was making me---Eric.
