Damping Materials for Audio Equipments
zipost---The blue material you are thinking of is EAR C-1002 Isodamp. It is designed for constrained layer damping, which is NOT what the chassis panels of electronics benefit from. EAR also makes the stuff you want for that application: Isodamp S...
Anyone have any experience with Select-Hifi out of the UK?
I as well. THE source for all things Townshend.
Pass Labs and Fuses
@uberwaltz,I brought up the opinions of Pass and Modjeski regarding fuses only as an intellectual exercise, for the sake of discussion. I like to hear opposing opinions on subjects, and don’t necessarily have to agree with one I cite (some conside...
Any experience using 8 ohm taps for 16 ohm speakers?
The original Quad ESL is a nominal 16 ohm load, but it’s impedance varies from 2 ohms (at 15kHz) to over 30 (at 80Hz)! That's why Peter Walker designed the Quad II tube amp with relatively low output impedance (it's damping factor is about 20), an...
Does anyone play two pairs of speakers at the same time?
Yeah @simonmoon, the Danny Richie Tech Talk Tuesday videos are fantastic. Tekton owners might want to not watch them, though ;-) .
Does anyone play two pairs of speakers at the same time?
Man, talk about comb filtering and phase issues! Getting the drivers in one loudspeaker to "speak as one" is hard enough, why make it much, much harder by pairing two different speakers? Very bad idea. There's a kid posting on the Planar Speaker A...
Pass Labs and Fuses
Modjeski actually did find the Tuning Fuse he tested measured differently than the Little Fuse brand he routinely uses. The difference was on the order of 120dB down ;-) . If your system can reveal that, and your ears can hear it, congratulations,...
Favorite punk song.
"The Witch" by The Sonics. Because they're from the 1960's, their music is referred to as Garage, but it's the sound The Ramones were going for. The best Garage band I ever saw live were The Lyres.
Whats playing on your system today?
Phillippe Herreweghe's interpretation of Beethoven's Symphony No.9 on Harmonia Mundi.
Magnepan needs your help
@richopp, I bought my first Maggies---the Tympani T-I---in ’73, and loved what they did well. But I missed the liquid-transparency and "snap" of ESL’s (the early Maggies were a tad veiled and soft), and the bottom octave (we didn’t at that time kn...
Rolling Stones - Let It Bleed - 50th Anniversary just released on MQA - Tidal HiFi
Happy Thanksgiving @jafant! I can speak only from intuition, as Cooder didn’t speculate. It is my suspicion that Brian Jones was responsible for more of The Stones direction than he has been given credit for. You’ll notice that it is Mick Taylor, ...
Eminent Technology LFT-8b in Harry's system
I would give ET a call. Bruce often answers the phone himself, and is a swell guy, eager to be of assistance.
Pass Labs and Fuses
Nelson Pass and Roger Modjeski (Music Reference) are two designers responsible for some of the best sounding amplification available today, and neither "believes" in fuses having a sound. What a coincidence. I guess that their designs sound good i...
Transformer coupled vs Capacitor coupled?
That is correct George. The EAR-Yoshino circuits themselves are single-ended, the transformers are just to provide balanced connections, as is standard in recording studios, where Tim does a lot of work (Roger Waters’/Pink Floyd’s studio in Englan...
Transformer coupled vs Capacitor coupled?
Tim de Paravicini uses transformers on the balanced/XLR inputs and outputs of his EAR-Yoshino 868 and 912 pre-amps, but of course not on the RCA's.
