Seeking help with an amp problem
call B&K - ask for Jerry in Tech Support. He is by far the most familiar and forthcoming about the older amps. Describe the problem - he may be able to give you a fix over the phone (or at least what/how to check it). You'll probably have to s...
what kind of audiophile are you ?
I would say I'm a combination #1 and #3. Since I don't know how to define "accuracy" in this hobby, I've conceded its pursuit.
lp12 ekoes troika vrs technics 1200 rb300 $1000+ca
I think after your Ekos arm you'll be disappointed with a RB300 or any derivative of it. I have an RB300 with heavyweight and cardas rewire. It's good, and does justice to a $1000 cartridge, but I also have a Linn Ittok LVII, and prefer it in ever...
Kind of Blue........blue vinyl........
count me among those who would keep that LP. But if you must sell, try a ebay listing with a "buy it now" set at a profit you can live with (e.g., $350), and also select the "make offer" option. See what happens. You never know who will grab it up...
Installation Instructions??
ok, I'm probably over-analyzing this task, but here's my additional 2 cents: I have used hemostats (which incidentally can be purchased at most electronics, fly fishing, and probably other crafts or hobby shops). They work nicely as long as you do...
Installation Instructions??
I use needle-nose pliers, although it's still possible to slip and do damage f you're not extra careful - especially in the case of a tight fit. It's hopeless for me to try this using my fat fingers.
Tonearm relative to Plinth alignment
on the basic plus tonearm, there is a slot on the cylinder that only allow you to adjust the height, but one can not rotate it, so alignment to plinth can not be adjusted now I see . . . this is different than the Linn Ittok, and Audioquest PT6 I...
Tonearm relative to Plinth alignment
I'll defer to Doug's view on the effect, but I still think you can straighten it by rotating the arm in its pivot. If you look at this picture, you can see one set screw that fits horizontally into the pivot plate (ie the round plate that fastens ...
iVinyl
hilarious. One scene reminds me of a guy I knew in high school ~late 60's. He had a 45rpm record changer in his '64 Impala.
Tonearm relative to Plinth alignment
I'm not sure I follow you - are you thinking that loosening the 3 screws may allow the arm to rotate back to its parallel position? Another option may be the VTA set screw. I'm not familiar with the Basic, but my Ittok has a single set screw on th...
Pet audiophile peeves - name yours
1) sellers who will not answer an inquiry with a precise, explicit response - especially when it has to do with item condition (eg Q: Can you describe the cosmetic condition, especially any blemishes? A: It's good.).2) Poor packing - not wrapping ...
Isolation platform for the power amps
DIY is the lowest cost option by far, and depending on how handy you are, and how much effort you want to put into it you can come up with a very attractive and effective stand with minimal cost. I made some using butcher blocks from TJ Max ($20 e...
Mono blocks are better or Stereo power amp?
I also prefer monoblocks for the same reasons as Aball. In addition, I prefer to place the amps on a floor stand near the speakers. The downside of monoblocks is they take more space. If you want to place your amp in a rack with the rest of your g...
MM cartrige - recommend a good one
London Decca makes several. Depending on your budget you can pick one. I have the Super Gold (MSRP $1295) which is in the middle of their range.I also like the Grado - various levels depending on your budget. I have the Reference Sonata (msrp ~$50...
