the footprint of the Sttaf (and for that matter the Hawk and the Forest) is smaller than any stand you will be able to find for monitors - this is why I suggested the floor standers. It seems to be a prevailing assumption here that monitors take u...

why not go straight to the Mani-2's? Although - recognize they are not at their best unless you have a lot of power - but that doesn't mean they can't sound great with less than optimal power.Otherwise - isn't the Model One the only upgrade if you...
How to "break-in" new speakers??
ditto to what everyone else said - listen and enjoy, but I would NOT try to drive them hard initially (ie within the 1st 100 hrs)
Analog system under 500 palyer and phono pre-amp
I agree the Musical Fidelity X-LPS is excellent - especially for the $used.
Does a center channel have to match the front spke
the center may not have to be an exact match for your mains, but you're better off if it's a close match. If Dynaudio has a budget center - not necessarily the same speaker elements but having the "house sound" it will probably work. When I first ...
60s console amps good and bad...
I've played around with some of these. I have a couple of Magnavox amps - one Stereo EL84 based (9302), and one Stereo 6V6 based (8802). The Maggies are popular and not bad sounding. I also have a pair of Thordarsen mono amps that are 6V6, 6SL7 ba...
Christmas Music and Audiophiles?
It seems a little early for the annual Christmas Music thread . . . but I love Christmas music - but only for the few days surrounding Christmas day. I'm not much of a fan of the usual pop songs (jingle bells, etc), instead I prefer the more relig...
Name 3 under appreciated pop/rock drummers
Steve Ferrone . I'm not sure if he's under-appreciated, but I only found out about him recently watching Tome Petty and the Heartbrakers. The guy is amazing.
Which band's vinyl catalog is consistently great?
Neil Young's catalog is consistently great. Same for Joni Mitchell, and Van Morrison. Eric Clapton's live lp "Just One Night" is amazingMike Oldfield's is also excellent, but Virgin label's pressings often were noisy.Roxy Music, Brian Eno, and Bry...
Can a "pushed in" dome tweeter + midrange be savev
Bdgregory, I was also making an attempt at humor since Unsound's idea requires sucking. Get it? now I do, and it's hilarious. I guess I hadn't had enough coffee that morning - it went right by me.
Variations in how your system sounds?
I always attributed it to psychology, or physiology (ie my hearing). Also, have you ever noticed how if you leave on vacation for a while, how sweet your system sounds on return?
Can a "pushed in" dome tweeter + midrange be savev
hmmm, I didn't mean to imply that at all. Sorry, I guess my feeble attempt at humor wasn't well thought out.

Yes, listen to unsound. He gives sound advice. . . . um, . . . wouldn't that be UN-unsound advice?
R.I.P. Bert Jansch...
Bert Jansch dies. . . always been a huge fan. I got my Bert Jansch and Pentangle records out this weekend, and also ordered up some his solo albums I don't already have. Bert and John (Renbourn) "after the dance" is a great album.
lp grunge
have you tried washing it off? If you don't have a record wash machine (eg VPI 16.5) there are manual methods. In any event, this sounds like a good reason to toss the AQ mat and get another type - like the Funk Achromat which does not leave any re...
