Powering off vs leaving on
Aroc, HiFiFarm, others - does the "leave it on rule" apply to tubes? I leave my solid state gear on 24x7, but just got a tube preamp. Do I leave it on? or turn it off each night?thanks,
A Very Long Primer on Record Cleaning Fluids
Thanks for the post. It is long, but it's exactly as you mention in your opening statement - the punch line is in the summary for those not interested in the technical detail. I printed it out and have added it to my reference file.thanks again.
Bellari VP129 thoughts/experiences?
I had one that I used for a while. It's good for the money. But otherwise unremarkable in my experience. I can't really offer you much of a review beyond that because I wasn't really playing much vinyl during the time I owned it - I was in the pro...
Camel - Nod and Wink - Impressive Album
since we're talking about their whole catalog I'll add 2 cents more . . . I have all of their studio albums starting with the first. Everything from the first up thru "Raindances" are fantastic, then Dust and Dreams, Harbour of Tears, Rajaz, and N...
Camel - Nod and Wink - Impressive Album
I agree - it's one of their best. It's one of the most played in my collection. I saw them live during the promo tour. "Rajaz" is the release just prior to Nod and a Wink and it's also fantastic. I'm hoping they'll put out another new CD shortly (...
Is a down-firing sub into carpet OK?
My REL Storm III is on a carpeted floor (carpet on concrete slab). Sounds fantastic
Have you ever moved to improve your system
I moved from an apartment into a house when I was in college - not so much for room acoustics, but so I could play my stereo without neighbors complaining. That was 30 years ago, and since then I've never considered multi-unit housing for this rea...
rel with monoblocks
I have a REL Storm III connected to B&K M200's. My manual said to connect the ground to the preamp, but I found it works better to connect directly to the amp as Jeff says, EXCEPT - I think Jeff meant to say "With one amp you connect the posit...
"GoldWave" : Good for recording LPs to CD?
I have Goldwave. Before I got it I recorded many of my LPs to CD burnable format using MusicMatch Jukebox, which is a nice program, easy to use and did a good job, except - the "autodetect track ending" really doesn't work very well. So in the end...
How long can you go with a phono cable?
the thread below has some discussion on the topic. I've run 3 meters plus the 1 meter on the table without any complaints. http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?eanlg&1120666746.
Does a listening room help or hinder?
MSM - get a laptop and a wireless network. I work full time at home. I spend a great deal of time on the phone, but when I'm not, the music is playing. I've gone through who knows how many arangements in my office - and used my office as my listen...
What is the quietest preamp you've used?
Rega Hal. It's dead quiet.
Cables for a high-school newbie
on your budget I would go with Dopogues recommendation. I've made the extension chord cables and they're clearly the best deal around. I went with the 12 guage. Same goes for the interconnects from Starlink. They can't be beat much more money, and...
7/7 London
It's indeed an outrage. Our thoughts and prayers to those who were affected.
Is there a length limit for Turntable cables?
Joe, in my layout I originally hooked up a Music Hall Phono Pack pre sitting next to the TT, with the 3M IC's going into my Exposure Preamp in another rack. It worked great. I moved from the Exposure to a Rega Hal preamp that has a very nice phono...
