Adding tube sound to my SS system
@ghdprentice I guess it just depends on your range of experience with various DAC’s. I relied on the opinions of all these experts with a wide range of experience - to select the Yggy, which I’ve found to be everything they reported it to be... ...
Adding tube sound to my SS system
@rick_n Absolutely - a good "ladder DAC" makes a great improvement to most any system.  And... they're very reasonably priced.  The Schitt Yggy produces amazing sound with the qualities the OP is seeking...
JA Pulsars vs Harbeth 30.2
@tjraubacher If... as you said... you listen primarily to acoustic music - you will have a very difficult time to find anything that matches the Harbeth’s rich, warm, life-like sound and imaging - except for the ESL 57’s and maybe the Maggie LRS...
JA Pulsars vs Harbeth 30.2
@tjraubacher  I would expect your H390 to sound very similar to the Harbeths driven by the H590 - there is not that much difference between the 2 amps.  I believe several of the Hegel amps in the Harbeth videos on YouTube are the lower powered am...
JA Pulsars vs Harbeth 30.2
Here ya go!  Listen to these - you will be amazed!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2E8ExBUC64c I have both the 30.2's and the 40.3's - both of which sound very much like the Quad ESL 57's - which is one of the best sounding speakers at any pric...
Enjoying "Affordable" Equipment
Well... those Technics turntables are highly reviewed by most... and none other than Frank Schroder considers the Denon 103 one of the best cartridges available. One of the "Best Cartridges" Available Great Sound from Denon vs Lyra Cartridge Af...
How cheap can you go and still be happy with the sound?
The price of your equipment bears little relationship to the sound it may produce. While it may be a "general principal" that the more the equipment cost the better it will sound... it... does not mean there are no exceptions - there are many! I ...
Magnepan 3.7i amp pairing
What you need to do is grab an amp from Class D Audio to drive them until you can detetmine what you need. You can get one for $600-$700, or so, which will drive them very well, until you complete your search. I’m using the SDS 370 which drives m...
Help with high end bookshelf speakers
Got the H590 with M30.1 and M40.2 - definitely Harbeth!!!
Why do Wav and Flac Files Sound Different?
@jond "WAV and Flac sound identical to me and WAV just takes up too much space." DITTO! You can't tell the difference in my tests - years ago!
Speakers On Wheels?
Or… you can get a pair of LRS+ Maggie’s, which are “light as a feather,” and sound better than most anything out there (a lot like ESL 57’s)… and… avoid all of that!
Seeking Bookshelf Recommendations
By the way... if the LRS+ really is not an option... the best stand mount monitor / "bookshelf" speaker I think I’ve heard is the Legacy Calibre. It’s a semi-open baffle, dipole speaker that sounds a lot like the other Legacy speakers (e.g. Aeris,...
Seeking Bookshelf Recommendations
Regarding the size of the room... the LRS+ requires a room about 10 x 10+. Their sound is optimized in about a 7’ equilateral triangle with the speakers about 2’ from the rear wall. And, because of the small size and light weight you can move them...
Seeking Bookshelf Recommendations
I like several of these suggestions.- especially the Harbeths and the Magnepan LRS+. I’ve got both and a few more, but these are my choices. Of these I prefer the LRS+ because with the right electronics there are few competitors <10+ times its...
Looking for the next level in imaging...
Get yourself a pair of LRS+ with the right electronics and sit back and enjoy superb resolution, staging, and imaging until you find your solution.   For an average sized room... "it don't get no better" than the LRS+... no matter what the price....
