Which Preamp with JC5? Rogue Audio RP-9 or Parasound JC2 the rogue RP1, RH5 and to a lesser extent the RP5 are all dead on neutral. never heard the RP9 but owned the RP7 and it sounded too warm and reticent for my preferences.
Any experience with Sound Smith repairing stylus on non-Sound Smith cartridges? SS did two amazing jobs for me- a dynavector dv20x2L with new ruby cantilever with stylus and same for an ortofon cadenza blue. the dynavector sounded much better, the ortofon slightly worse but still great.
What Is So Special About Harbeth? another thing - Harbeth speakers are special because they never sound irritating! never a harsh note, startling shout, edgy glare or cringe moment. the best speakers for walking the fine line between forgiving and detailed.
Need speaker recommendations. Spendor D series- downfiring ports. sound great 1-2 feet from wall.
To Buy or to DIY, here is my question currently doing a set of DIY LS3/5a monitors and I am excited to hear how they will sound. drivers are proven and matched. had a shop CNC the MDF for the cabinets to my spec including bracing and grille frames. crossovers were the biggest learn...
Japan purchases bought a luxman cd player from japan, everything worked out well, good deal, timely shipping, etc. the 120 V converter was about $125 and works well but is large, heavy has a wimpy power cord for a 500 watt device. one very big issue is gettin...
Integrated tube amp vs Tube amp? Sharing my history I moved on from a Rogue Audio Cronus Magnum II into a foray of separates- (2) rogue audio tube preamps, rogue audio, parasound and pass power amps, cary audio tube preamps. truth be told I miss the sound of the Cronus Magnu...
Which Preamp with JC5? Rogue Audio RP-9 or Parasound JC2 Recently using a Cary Audio SLP-05 preamp with a Parasound a21+ and the results were spectacular- huge spacious sound, tube rectifier warmth and impressive dynamics, transparency and refinement. You can’t believe it when you plug in a solid state...
Advice needed on MC cartridges owned the 2m black for years. a dynavector dv20 x2l sounded much better, smoother and more dynamic. an audiotechnica ART9 ( new model ART9XI) destroyed the 2M black. so much cleaner, colorful, dynamic and a huge sound stage.
McIntosh -- good for show, not for sound, says dealer Shows the ignorance of the dealer. I will say Mac can sound amazing with the right speakers and not so great with others. They sound as good or better than anything with Klipsch and other horn loaded speakers, also with B&W diamonds, raidho, ...
What Is So Special About Harbeth? The sound of my SHL5+ goes across musical genres with ease. Rock guitar and vocals have presence and clarity that sounds real. Drum skins have pop and snap. When I listen to Klipsch for example the sound is fun and dynamic but overly colored a...
How do you tell your Cartridge needs replacing? OP, keep a log of how many record sides you play over a month or so and assume each one is 20 min or .33 hours. then estimate the accumulated hours on your cartridge based on your record playing habits. If it is upwards of 1500 hrs or so ha...
What Is So Special About Harbeth? For those that say they are overpriced I would be interested in which less expensive speakers sounded better to you. For those that have moved on which speakers did you move to?
What Is So Special About Harbeth? @helomech @lemonhaze Harbeth woofers struggling to keep up and becoming compressed seems to be online urban legend rather than how they truly sound in practice- at least the latest versions. I heard the recent P3ESR being driven by 200 WPC MO...
What Is So Special About Harbeth? Guess I did not directly answer the question- really it is how they sound that makes them special but how they get there is the answer. They use a lossy tuned cabinet resonance design that gives them a controlled richness. The proprietary midran... |
