Tube PHONO preamp interference - RFI, EMI, bad grounding? @filipm There's an interesting point about the ARC though. When I changed the tubes (it's mk1), uses 4 pieces of 6922, the noise was picked up by the ARC too. It was just very quiet and only when the cage was opened. Are you changing tubes w...
Preamp/DAC Suggestions @grateful_dad one thing to consider is that in your $5000 price range (and even above) it’s unlikely you will get a DAC with a built in preamp that will be better than a dedicated preamp. I would focus on a DAC first and not worry too much about t...
how much should I spend to get a better turntable than my current turntable? Nice! Looking forward to your thoughts on this new table!
how much should I spend to get a better turntable than my current turntable? @grislybutter think about the new turntable that’s en route and stop being so sensitive. what cartridge did you opt for on your RT85?
Buzzing in Speaker while Playing CDs What king of buzzing noise? Can you describe it? You can run a simple test. 1. Take the left channel from your dac and feed the right channel on your amp/preamp with it. Does the buzzing follow the cable and is now in the right speaker? 2. Swap t...
Does a DAC need a large/strong power supply? @tuberist Send it to Amir and find out exactly how badly you got screwed with this DAC. You could’ve just bought a $99 Chinese reference DAC that measures perfectly. Also, don’t forget to dig into that storage bin to pull some basic audio cables t...
Does a DAC need a large/strong power supply? ASR created a following of minions who like their opinions to be formed for them by someone else. Amir’s tests and measurements are questionable as he strives to “debunk” the high end “myths” and that’s how he gets his subcribers/audience. In most...
Zavfino @juanmanuelfangioii nice system and a good write up! Thanks for this! Funny…I was looking at the Arcadia for the analog portion of my system as well, a link between my Sutherland KC Vibe MkII phono stage and the Pass XP-12 where BlueJeans RCAs ar...

Tube PHONO preamp interference - RFI, EMI, bad grounding? At this point the cure is worst than the disease. Dump this phono amp and get one that’s properly designed to not be susceptible to this type of interference at least within your setup. Seriously. You’re going to drive yourself nucking futs.
Zavfino @juanmanuelfangioii ok awesome. Details please…sound signature…warm, neutral, bright? How’s the imaging and clarity? How do these compare to the cables they replaced and what were those cables?
Looking for a DAC that's better than Mc C47 Look into a used Benchmark DAC3b should be around your budget. Chord Qutest should also be a step up. These two DACs I’m familiar with and I heard the dac1 built into McIntosh integrated. Other choices just based on reviews are Schiit Bifrost, ol...
Higher End DACs @tubeguy76 cant talk about Denafrips, never had a chance to listen, but had and enjoyed very much a Chord Qutest. It has a natural tone, is detailed and sweet. You can also select different filters that alter the sound. The orange filter mellows t...
To all of the Wilson Audio owners: I’m enjoying the Sabrina. As the others pointed out, speaker placement with the Wilsons is critical. It can make it or break it. I ended up with about 4ft from between the speakers and the wall behind them. Also how far away you sit from the speak...
Are Expensive Balanced Interconnects Necessary? In my experience it depends. For example, the Pass Labs preamps and amps sound better with XLRs. Also, using XLRs with these components diminishes the audible difference between cables. I have experienced the same with Audio Research LS and Ref se... |
