Pass Then vs. Pass Now
Threshold Is without a doubt a good amp. Problem with vintage amps is if you need parts replaced. Those oil can capacitors, other parts. Are these amps even supported today? Shipping that amp for a repair will cost a few bucks as well. This alone ...
Pass Then vs. Pass Now
I don’t have your speakers but I did have Adcom 555 and 5802 with B&Ws and Dynaudios and Martin Logans. While I enjoyed these amplifiers, my Pass Labs XA30.8 is in a completely different league. Oh and I also had Rogue RP-1 and RP-5 with Rogu...
Dust Settled Consensus- is the Benchmark AHB2 an Audiophile Amplifier?
@jeffseight LOL
USB cables conducor - help
With PC as a source, get the least revealing cable. Decent copper USB cable should do just fine. Just pick one. Invest in a streamer instead…PC is a bull 💩 streamer and you won’t be happy in a long run.
Dust Settled Consensus- is the Benchmark AHB2 an Audiophile Amplifier?
If the ASR crowd approves of it because it measures well, I’d proceed with caution. Listening tests is not something they take into consideration most of the time.    @avanti1960 I see you have XA25 and if that’s still the case and you like the P...
Dust Settled Consensus- is the Benchmark AHB2 an Audiophile Amplifier?
Never listened to a Benchmark amplifier but I did own their original Dac1 back in a day and most recently owned the DAC3 HGC. If their DACs are any indication, thr amplifiers should measure great, have good feature set, posses studio monitor like ...
Great customer service from Auralic Ltd.
Glad you got the support needed but none of this should have happened in the first place. The Auralic OS should have handled something like this much more gracefully. I had the ARIES G1 and the firmware bugs that caused issues every week, several...
Cable burn in
@chiadrum leave your BlueJeans cables alone for now and let them settle. Before you embark on the cable shopping spree, I would recommend addressing the upgrades in the following order: 1. Components and speakers - make sure that is taken care ...
Schiit Mani 2
But in all seriousness for that level system you need at least close to a reference level phono stage.
Schiit Mani 2
No schiit! What did you expect for $149?
ETHERNET CABLES
@oddiofyl now the connection makes more sense. I doubt it was the ethernet cable. Some DACs will pop. My bryston dac popped every time it was about to start playing DSD file.
Cable burn in
I responded about break in. See above.  Everything matters…type of materials used, level of quality.  I like OCC copper for interconnects and speaker cables.  Remember though in the end you get what you pay for.  I wouldn’t be wasting time on $40...
Cable burn in
Every new cable I ever bought needed time to break in. Usually between 100-200hrs is enough to get an idea of what it will sound like and most will settle at around 200hr mark. Used cables that were out of the system for few days take between few...
ETHERNET CABLES
@oddiofyl  I had pops and noises when switching digital sources.   I removed the CAT 8 between Aurender and DAC , problem solved How was your streamer connected to your dac using ethernet cable?
Tube Rolling for Rogue Audio Cronus Magnum 2
Never had that amp but did own Rogue RP-1 and RP-5 with ST-100.  I liked gold lion in the amp in 12au7 and 12ax7. For the preamp the best tubes I tried were Brimar CV4003 from Upscale. I also tried rca clear top from Vintage Tube Services (Andy) a...
