What tests would you like all speaker reviewers to do for their reviews?
Well I wish all but a few would go away. But I am sick of reviewers stating that one speaker is suited for a particular type of music and not all types. Measurements are all but useless when bad measurements exhibited by a favored manufacturer are...
Dedicated power
Put a Cruze First outlet in and call it good. I have owned both and the Cruze sounds better to me and is much cheaper. Also check with the manufacturer of your components to make certain the Synergistic fuse or other exotic fuses wont void your wa...
If you had a dozen pairs of classic vintage ubes in your closet
You will most likely not be able to consistently tell a used tube from new with a simple emissions tube tester. Shorts yes and that is about it. If you buy a tube tester buy a true transconductance tester. Many Dynamic Mutual Conductance testers o...
Preamp choices:Short list
If the circuit is truly balanced than I think balanced is always better than single ended. However many designs are not truly balanced and then often single ended is better.I could care less about what Frank Van Alstine says about anything. He has...
JBL 4349 or Klipsch Cornwall IV
I cant imagine using any horn speaker with a S.S. amp. Granted I think many horn owners are limiting themselves by using low power SET amps.
tube magic with digital source?
I mostly agree with miller on this. I have never been able to get emotionally connected with any digital source I have tried. From the outset, it simply isnt there. However I do enjoy digital more with my tubes than with S.S. but the improvement i...
JBL 4349 or Klipsch Cornwall IV
If you cant listen to your system for extended periods of time without fatigue then you should look for a different speaker. Not a Klipsch or JBL fan, but my guess is that you could look to modifications on the tweeter with the Klipsch. Have also ...
will changing to solid-state make the bass in my wilson sophias better at low volume?
S.S. usually doesnt have good low volume detail which is a area where tubes shine. Odd to me that a speaker would not sound good at low volumes but "better" at higher volumes.
Does it annoy you when companies don't show the internals of electronics ?
It is nice to see inside, but not critical.
RCA 6l6GC Tubes
RCAs will always have the "stop sign" logo around the 6L6GC designation. However I can think of at least 3 perhaps 4 different internal constructions with the RCA black plates. If you post a photo I can tell you who actually made your tubes.
Now that I have my Tri-planar tone arm, I ask for recommendations for a new cartridge.
Mu-Tech Hiyabusa. I use this on my Tri-planar Merrill-Williams setup.
We spend too much time talking about tweeters
I think the Wilson inverted domes were terrible tweeters.
New silversmith fidelium cable
Well I would say that the Inakustik 4004s certainly do some things better and nothing worse that I can hear. I would give the nod in favor of the Fideliums over the Inakustik 2404 although these are both great cables. I think the Bionics cables (n...
New silversmith fidelium cable
I would say that these cables are very good, great at their price point but not the best cables I have heard. Would not hesitate to recommend unless the client was willing the pay the significant increase in price to get to the next tier.
We spend too much time talking about tweeters
Not when the tweeters sound like butt! Case in point for me are the older Thiel speakers.
