Esoteric MG 10 vs Magnepan 1.7
As with all Maggie's, you will need room behind them and an amp with plenty of current to do them justice. Also, controlling reflections (room treatment) makes an enormous difference. If you can set up them up properly, your room allows for some tr...
Revel Gem 2 only goes down to 75Hz ?
It's not that simple... for example what is slope of the subwoofer and what's slope of the Gem2 crossover? The steeper the slope the quicker it rolls off... And what is the -dB at 75Hz? -3dB, -6dB, -12dB? Makes a huge difference...I bet you'll be ...
What is a minimum room size for 1.7 Maggies?
It really comes down to how you are using that room... if it's a dedicated audio room with very little of anything else, then I bet it would sound fantastic with a bit of acoustic treatment. If you need to fit lot of furniture in the room as well,...
CD player similar to Playstation 1?
Try a non-over sampling CD player or DAC. Personality, I would recommend the MHDT Havana.
Arcam, Cambridge Audio or Sony: Most musical??
How far apart are you on price? If you add shipping costs, are you in the vicinity of the price you would be paying locally?
Arcam, Cambridge Audio or Sony: Most musical??
They're all good in their own rights, different, yes. It comes down to preference and synergy with the rest of your equipment.
BI-AMPING
Could be... but it's almost just hard for us that are not read all those caps...Either way, bi-amping when done right can be quite successful, but done wrong, and it can be disastrous... you need to use two identical amps, or an active cross over
What is a very nice sounding tube preamp?
You really need to take a close look at the Eastern Electric Avant... I bought one a few months back and honestly, it's one of the best values ever. The sound is truly amazing! Now, is it perfect? No... the balanced input is marked XRL... but heck...
CD transport recommendations
The CEC TL1X is indeed pitch black background and perfectly 3D... The TL5100 wasn't in the same league... mind you, not bad at all, but to the same level
CD transport recommendations
Just bought a transport... CEC TL1X, probably one of the best ever made...
Is Anyone Using The Oppo 105 As A Preamp?
The volume control in the Oppo is done in the digital domain, which means that you start cutting bits to reduce the volume. The Oppo is great at many things, but being a pre-amp is not one of them.
AMP/Speaker help please...
Don't overcomplicate things... Steuspeed got it right, just use the BAT VK500.Bi-amping can yield good results, but unless do you it right (external crossover, potentially needing to eq the amps to achieve balance, etc.) many time it will only mak...
Attn Vinyl lovers - what CD Player do you use?
For the first time, my digital is actually sounding great! Just bought a MHDT Havana Balanced, non-oversampling, tube output, DAC. For the first time, I hear MUSIC though the digital; truly, amazing, emotional, music.I've had an Oppo BDP-95 that I...
Which DAC is better?
I don't know if I agree that "digital is moving so rapidly that anything you buy today will be obsolete tomorrow"... Computer audio (Hi-Rez) and streaming is moving along pretty quick, but except for that.. not that much is happening. And what is ...
I2S, S/PDIF, Toslink connections
Most I2S is not over HDMI (except as Kr4 pointed out, for PS Audio), but there are several different I2S interfaces. The difference between the I2S and the common s/pdif is that the I2S includes the word clock communication, allowing a DAC to sync...
