The "1st Pressing" LP Hysteria- Is the terminology wrong?
Better records has dispelled this notion about 1st pressings always sounding better. A good example is miles Davis kind of blue lp. The original 6 eye stereo pressing is not as good as a later reissue on the columbia red label.
Unbelievable 3-D imaging sound
All he's missing is a good vinyl set up. Then you will see what it's really all about. You think it sounds good now....of course then you need to find the right pressings of course. Not today's crappy repressed lps...
Warm romantic & detailed
I'll second the Tannoy recomendation. Warm, romantic, and involving sound. They look beautiful to boot.
One year down, two to go. What's the longest you have saved for one component?
Debt does not necessarily mean interest! For example music direct often runs a promo with synchrony card, 36 months interest free/equal payments. My citi card linked to amazon offers 24 months/equal payments, no interest. Pay pal credit, the same,...
Vinyl Accessories - Skip It or Buy It!
Why not just get a simple record DR RCM....it essentially does the exact same thing all the other more expensive ones do. It simply vacuums out of the grooves your choice of record cleaning fluid, nothing more nothing less. Vacuuming is vacuuming....
Relative Spending on Turntables and Cartridges
If it were me, I’d get the music hall mmf 9.3 in walnut finish. I personally think it’s hard to beat for the money. It’s on my wish list and will most likely be my forever turntable. It combines both a terrific cartridge and a fabulous turntable. ...

The secret to a great amplifier...
Think I'll leave my amp just as it is. Interesting though it may be....
Internet radio for Luddites
Why would you not bother with fm? In Boston I have two fantastic radio stations, both of which come in crystal clear with a good antenna and have terrific fidelity. The stations are 89.7 wgbh (classical & jazz) and 99.5 wcrb (classical) I’m us...
Stylus stuck in groove
Mount it, align it, cue it up, enjoy, simple. Why do people make more of it than there is.
smaller speakers for critical listening?
Loving my tannoys, very large standmounts, great bass, great everything actually.
Amplifier warm up
My sugden class A takes a good 90 minutes to sound its best, not that it sounds like crap prior....it also makes for a great space heater in winter.
Footers Under Power Conditioners?
My Niagara 1200 sits behind my couch on the floor, wall to wall carpet. That is where it will remain. Suffice to say I think it is stupid to think you could possibly perceive whether it is supported by spikes or hemispheres or cones or whatever......
What's the best and/or favorite piece of equipment you've owned? And do you still own it?
My Aiwa AD F-770 three head cassette deck. 38 years and still going strong with nothing more than a belt change. Also, my Marantz st6000 tuner. These are the only things remaining from past systems.
I am confused about 15A and 20A current.
You cannot just swap out a 15A breaker for a 20A. You must have at least 12/2 romex running from panel through the walls to accommodate the 20A breaker. When you just swap out breakers as above, you will over heat the romex wire, being that the 15...
