I have just purchased the latest Sound Lab M1
Hi Allan, there is a product called the ZERO (see zeroimpedance.com). It allows our smaller amplifiers to drive loads down to 2 ohms. Its an outboard output transformer, but one with a very low turns ratio.Without it, our smaller amps can't drive ...

Hi David, your numbers are impressive and as I have always made sure to mention in the past, its an impressive design. I was privy to Harvey Rosenburg's plans when he coined the acronym 'ZOTL' back when he was making a deal with you to manufacture...

Hi Allan, I think there is some confusion- I've never said the Berning was 'digital'-ever...To be an OTL specifically means no transformers at the output of the output tubes. Its a technicality, the point is that calling something that it isn't is...

Oneprof, FWIW while unquestionably a brilliant design, the Berning isn't an OTL- it has both an output transformer and semiconductors in the output section.
Class-D amps - a different re view
Kijanki, I agree completely- and will add that many of today's specifications exist to sell certain types of amplifiers rather than get to the truth of the sonics.
Record shops in Minneapolis/St Paul MN
Cheapo on Snelling Avenue in St. Paul recently took over half of a store front and increased the new vinyl stock at the same time.
Best matching amp for Wilson W/P6, any sudgestions
FWIW the national sales manager for Wilson ran MA-1s on his Watt/Puppies for some years. As far as we've even been able to tell, Wilsons in general are an easy load for a tube amplifiers.
Tube Amp. Power ratings
Ckoffend and Jaffeassc, I would try it both ways but I would expect that the amp and its power tubes would be more comfortable on the 4 ohm tap. The transformer actually does what its named for- it transforms impedance. Here's how that works:Let's...
Tube amp for rock? Newb Questions
I had the LP on hand too, along with a few other metal faves. The system we had in the room had no upper limits as far as sound pressures were concerned :) although the bass was best up close, which was odd. Every room has its issues...
Tube amp for rock? Newb Questions
I really don't agree that metal is in general badly recorded! Despite being a manufacturer, and despite audiophiles generally using light jazz with female vocals, the fact of the matter is that metal faces its own set of issues in the recording- o...
Zu Druids low powered tube amp or high powered SS?
FWIW we got our Druids from ZU in trade for an S-30. They still have the amp after 2 years and we still have the speakers. The S-30 will play the speaker to crazy levels in most rooms. They seem to work quite well together.
Tube Amp. Power ratings
Jamnesta, yes. The degradation in performance of any output transformer on its 4 ohm tap is audible and measurable. You can often loose an octave off of the bass end, and often too the actual power output drops as the transformer is less efficient...
Tube amp for rock? Newb Questions
I use the Classic Audio Reproductions T-3. The speaker is 8 ohms (newer versions are 16), goes from an honest 20Hz to about 40KHz, and is 97 db 1 watt/1 meter.I can shake the building with our 60 watt amp. Check out:http://www.atma-sphere.com/awar...
Class-D amps - a different re view
We have an internal design rule we call the 20-year rule that prevents us from using NOS tube types, IOW the tube type has to be in current manufacture. We've had this from the beginning, so its already served us well, as we have an aggressive upd...
Tube Amp. Power ratings
Cincy_bob, 'chip amps' have been around in one form or another since the late 70's. The issue with them is that the form factor limits the amount of heat they can dissipate and the amount of current that they can pass. So you can damage them if yo...
