What happened to Ei? Thanks for the update Dejanm.I'll second that!
External step-up transformer with Io or MP-1 Given the choice, I think I would prefer analog though a really good transformer than listen to digital :)
What happened to Ei? The US (NATO) bombed the factory a few years back.We were still able to get EI tubes 2 years ago, but they don't /didn't really make anything we use but 12AT7s.
External step-up transformer with Io or MP-1 I've tried the MP-1 both ways- a few years ago some ex-partners of mine were real advocates of the SUT. My experience is that while you can get the overall setup to be quieter, ultimately you find that the phono is not as interesting as before- br...
Transfiguration Orpheus - Has anyone tried it ? I just got the Orpheus, and I run it in the Triplanar Mk7. Its anything but tweaky, but very, very nice.
Explain impedence matching please The general rule of thumb is that the preamp have 1/10 the output impedance with respect to the input impedance of the amplifier. It should not exceed that value at all audio frequencies. In the case you describe above, no worries.
Balanced ----- Unbalanced---- Points well taken Herman, but I don't recall suggesting that your stereo was noisy and had phone lines in it??
Balanced ----- Unbalanced---- Herman, the phonograph is a very low output signal. MC cartridges are lower output than any microphone, even ribbon mics. Almost all cartridges are a balanced source; with output levels that low there is in fact a benefit to be realized in the hom...
Balanced ----- Unbalanced---- Herman, before balanced line occurred, you had to scream at the top of your lungs to make a call across the state. The fact of the matter is balanced line was a transformation because there was less information loss. Historically you may find it u...
Balanced ----- Unbalanced---- Hi Herman, for cables alone the topology is indeed better. Before balanced line came along, transcontinental phone calls were impossible. HiFi did not exist in recordings. Balanced line operation transformed that. Even in short runs that you see i...
Tube amp speaker output 4 ohms VS 8 ohms FWIW the 4 ohm tap is there so you can load the tubes correctly. The tubes are likely wanting to see about 3000 to 5000 ohms from plate to plate and your speaker is much lower. The transformer does exactly what it says it does. It transforms impeda...
Balanced ----- Unbalanced---- Herman, the reason we make balanced equipment stems from my experiences in college, setting up Neumann microphones in the music hall. We ran 150 feet of interconnect. That's not something you can do with single-ended- too much high frequency loss....
searching balanced Tube preamp with....... Many tube preamps have a low output impedance that will drive 20K- but not at all frequencies. This limitation is imposed by the output coupling capacitor. The problem is, the bigger you make the cap so it can play bass, the less transparent the c...
Balanced ----- Unbalanced---- It better than nothing! If the balanced standard is supported, then at least the connection between the preamp and the EQ is solid, even if the connection to the amp is only single-ended. The more information you don't loose, the better.
searching balanced Tube preamp with....... Our MP-1 has a low output impedance- it has a patented direct-coupled output and can drive 32 ohm headphones quite well.It was intended to support the 600 ohm balanced line standard. You may already know this, but the low impedance standard was cr... |
