Opportunity to buy the best Preamp... but which?
We just revamped our MP-1 at the beginning of the year and we do think its the best thing out there. FWIW its turned into our best seller- outselling our cheaper preamp 10:1 and outselling the amps too. I think its better than anything I've heard,...
Opportunity to buy the best Preamp... but which?
So- if there is no 'best', doesn't it seem that there are a lot of manufacturers *saying* they have the best? I agree they can't all be right :)Seems to me also that this got covered in another thread. But still I find myself wondering- if someone...
Best amps for MBL101e's?
A customer of ours swears that the MA-2 is the best map he's heard on his system. From his reports, we've been able to determine that the MBL 101s are not nearly has hard to drive as they have the reputation for!
Opportunity to buy the best Preamp... but which?
So the 'best' does not exist? I have a challenge for you then.I can easily point out an area where preamp performances differ- and where listening preferences will favor the preamp that measures better: the ability to drive interconnect cables.I t...
Anybody familiar with Mundorf silver&oil caps
Hi Robert, Not seen the Duelands yet.
What amp should be used with merlin vsm's?
FWIW we have a lot of customers running Merlins. I doubt that its coincidence...
Opportunity to buy the best Preamp... but which?
Are there any new designs that leapfrog all these top machines? There are certainly preamps that have technology that do represent breakthroughs. In addition a top preamp will have the best coupling caps available and things like that...
Balanced Phono question - forgive my ignorance
Hi Dave, the early BAT must be one of the few! Most of the phono sections I've seen with a balanced output are also balanced in.TD, There is a way to run balanced operation from RCA jacks from a tone arm, provided the tone arm ground is on a seper...
Anybody familiar with Mundorf silver&oil caps
The more system resolution you have, the more you hear bypass caps smearing the sound due to their different speeds. Instead you want to get the best cap you can to give it your best shot; frankly if I were you I would get a set of V-Cap Teflons t...
Balanced Phono question - forgive my ignorance
Dgarretson's response is correct except for what looks like a typo:However, some phono stages not balanced all the way through have true-balanced output sections. In this case you will benefit going XLR from phono to pre.I think the word 'not' goe...
Best Preamp = No Preamp?
One thing that people don't always realize is how important it is for the preamp to control the interconnect cable between the preamp and amp. Passives cannot do that, but a good preamp can, if there is intention to do so in its design!
what's 'Active preamp' vs 'Passive preamp'?
Eandylee, most volume controls that are in DACs are not of the best quality- particularly if they are digital. Digital volume controls essentially subtract bits to lower the volume; the result is audible loss of resolution as you turn the volume d...
35 watts in Ultralinear vs 50 watts in Triode
When you have an amp that can switch between modes, one thing is for sure: the triode mode will not actually reflect the sound and performance of real triodes. For that you will have to use an amp that is actually built with triodes which will dem...
best preamp ever - cost is no object
There is also the idea that in pursuit of the 'best' (IOW the state-of-the-art) that the designer must sort out what it is that allows for foot-tapping *and* good specs! But then at the same time there is the issue of taste. I found out about 25 y...
best preamp ever - cost is no object
The problem here is that the audio industry in general has been lying for a very long time- decades. If a manufacturer, dealer or distributor's lips are moving, he's lying. Seems like everyone says they have the 'best' and the English language bei...
