Unity gain with tube buffer?
Clio09, only the newer Mk.IIIs can get the volume control option. The earlier units don't have the panel space.
Unity gain with tube buffer?
Clio09, I have a customer using Stormbringers with our MA-1s. He is delighted with them- gave up a set of Carver Silver Amazings. He thinks Duke's speakers are better in every way. In having heard his system, I agree. We can install a volume contro...
OK to have power amps powered w/o spkrs.?
Some amplifiers do have stability issues without a load, so it is a good idea to check with the manufacturer. Otherwise, as a general rule of thumb, if the amplifier has no output load, do not put a signal into it.
Unity gain with tube buffer?
Pubul57, the AudioKinesis speakers are designed and built by Duke of AudioKinesis.Although I prefer an active linestage **designed and built properly**, I do not question for a moment that TVCs and even a properly set up passive can do better than...
Favorite Speakers at RMAF
Jaybo, that's true, but then they went out and got more.
Unipivot vs Linear Tracking
Alun, the problem with many air bearing tonearms is that the lateral tracking mass is much greater than the relatively normal vertical tracking mass. This causes the cantilever of many cartridges to 'walk' back and forth as it produces all the forc...
2008 RMAF – – – all things analog.
Quiddity, your 2-watt figure regarding the Empire motor is incorrect- by a factor of 10. At lock-up, the motor draws 0.24Amps, that's 28 watts. If you turn the motor on for just an instant and then try to stop it by grabbing the motor shaft with y...
Unity gain with tube buffer?
Pubul57, we're working on one that will be offered through Ultra Violet Audio. Probably not a lot of help to you right now though...
2008 RMAF – – – all things analog.
Quiddity, take another look at my post. I merely pointed out that a lot of belt drive machines get away with using weaker motors, not that **all** of them do. The motor I use in my machine has a lot of torque and behaves very much like a second fl...
Amp for Quad ESL 57
Jim, you're a dealer for deHavilland, aren't you?Mr. Tennis, there is something I don't understand: If you like a dark unfocused presentation, why are you working with Quads (which can be really revealing)?
2008 RMAF – – – all things analog.
To start with the Triplanar is a more capable arm than the Schroder, with all due respect.Having spent years in the service sector repairing audio gear, I don't think I would agree that just because a turntable is belt drive that that means it wil...
The best speaker you ever heard?
For years I have had the Classic Audio Reproductions T-3s. It has always been an excellent compromise on the various issues that beset a speaker- good to 20Hz, revealing, images well, smooth while detailed, etc. However at the RMAF the new version ...

Mrtennis, any updates for the ST-70 planned?
TRELJA in Denver - 2008
Trelja, we had a music server in our room too on the main floor. I think it helped that is was plugged into one of the better DACs I've heard in years- the Stahl Tek, and many of the sound files on the server were 192KHz 24-bit, something that you...
Atma-Sphere MA2 Mk2.3 / Krell KSA 250 / Passlabs?
FWIW there is a general rule of thumb that you can follow regarding MA-2s and MA-1s. That is: if the speaker is known to work with tubes, it will be OK.IMO there is a myth that a speaker has to be 'OTL friendly' (for example in the case of the MA-...
