Tenor 75 Wi OTL I suspect that it is biased a littler harder than the Joule if that's the case. We've yet to work on a Joule although we have serviced Tenors in the past.
Reel to Reel decks Astralography, I agree on the need to use analog from one end to the other in the recording process. When my band has released its LPs, although they had set up the studio before I joined the group, none of them had experience editing a master wit...
Tenor 75 Wi OTL The Trancendent is Class AB vs. Class A operation of the TenorJust FWIW, the math does not support the idea that the Tenor was class A, not if it is also 75 watts output. IME, the tube is difficult to operate in the A2 region due to the prodigious...
Manual vs. Auto Bias Yes, the whole thing is confusing!'Fixed bias' refers to any method of biasing the amp where the changes to the bias are affected by adjusting the voltage on the grid. This voltage 'fixes' the bias.'Self bias' (also sometimes called cathode bias) ...
damping factor Here's a link you may find useful, that relates directly to the matter of damping factor and matching the amp and the speaker for optimal operation:http://www.atma-sphere.com/papers/paradigm_paper2.htmlThere is no speaker made that requires more t...
Manual vs. Auto Bias Viridian, the term 'auto-bias' refers to a form of fixed bias operation, wherein the bias current is monitored in some form by either an analog or digital servo circuit which allows the amp to react to changes which may come from the tubes or perh...
Which speaker has the biggest sound stage? Its pretty well known that the older Maggies had problems with the glue that held the voice coil to the diaphram. Apparently it was sensitive to UV; if left in a room that had direct light it would break down over the years. If your room had no su...
What the heck is bias anyway? Mitch4t, automatic bias as a feature varies from amp to amp. With some systems it is quite simple and others rather complex. The accuracy varies too. For the most part what autobias means is that the most 'fiddling around' will have to do with ini...
Reel to Reel decks Astralography, thanks for your spot-on observations.
What the heck is bias anyway? Mitch4t, this depends on the amp. Some amplifiers have very stable bias settings and can be checked maybe once every 6 months. Others seem to need constant observation. So I would go with the manufacturer's recommendations.
Tenor 75 Wi OTL Glory, Since you have ZU speakers you will not have much advantage in seeking an OTL with more power.
What the heck is bias anyway? Lesse... the setting of the bias has *no effect* on the power output. It affects the distortion and the heat of the tube (or transistor).I think if the signal current(music) exceeds the bias current, then there is no sound or just tons of distorti...
Anyone compared BAT Rex vs. Atmasphere MP-1? Talk2me, There is no power amp made that has an input impedance too low for the MP-1 (it can drive 32-ohm headphones directly from the same outputs that drive the power amps). The Burmester is completely balanced, so no worries.
Setting tube bias Hifihvn, just for the record, yes, if a tube had a short then it could mess with the other tubes, depending on the circuit of the amp. Not in this case though- something is wrong with the amp.
difference between an active and a passive preamp? Hi Al, The cable between the source component and the passive control plays a reduced role on account of the output impedance of the source. When the series resistance of the passive control is inserted into the circuit, the character flaws of the... |
