I'm happy but I want more, more, more Sadly we are not all millionaires and the best analogue is rapidly becoming a rich man's hobby I see people putting together very successful systems using modest equipment like the Technics SL1200 with a Grado Gold cartridge, amps like a Dynaco S...
Why does my 35 watt tube amp draw 300 watts of power Tube amps are only 5% efficient. We can easily see from the opening post of this thread that the above statement is false. If you can get two channels of 35 watts from 300 watts of wall power, clearly the amp must be more like 20% efficient, in th...
I'm happy but I want more, more, more With electronics it seems to pay best if you start the upgrades upstream and work your way downstream to the amp and speakers. No matter how good your amps and speakers are, they can't recover information lost by the front end. So you get that rig...
Weird Popping issue It does sound like a power tube; a power tube failure would reduce output, but not kill it entirely.
Buzzing noise. It is normal for a buzz to result if the amp is on and connected to a preamp which is off.The preamp of course should be turned on first, this to avoid damaging the loudspeakers should there be a turn-on thump. If the buzz is then so quiet as to on...
Weird Popping issue If you have a Primaluna I would start with Kevin at Upscale Audio. You might also look on ebay- that can be a good source if you know what you are looking for. Also try CE Distrubution in Arizona. Of course, a lot depends on what tube type it is an...
Weird Popping issue The chances that this is a bad tube are pretty high. My guess is it will be one of the smaller tubes- not one of the power tubes. The tube is likely developing a cathode/filament short or similar. Quite often the short will heal temporarily if the...
Problem about buzzing noise from speakers.... If the preamp is not on, it is normal to pick up some buzz. Always turn the preamp on first to avoid turn on thumps and the like- doing it the other way could damage your loudspeakers! If the buzz is only audible very close to the speakers I would ...
Synergistic Grounding Block and Tweaking it. It was Entrec or Tripoint; don't remember which. Interesting comments. Not sure if I concur with your conclusion. Have you actually tried the SR device?I'm just reporting the results of the survey. We do take care to ground our equipment properly ...
Direction of aftermarket fuses (only for believers!) in fact I was involved at one time with third party testing for VERY big projects, you know Government and Military projects.$2000 hammers?
Where Do you buy TRANSISTORS? East Coast Transistor Parts used to be the goto. They are now www.kenwoodparts.com/Ebay can be a bad place to look as there are so many counterfeits being offered that will simply blow up when installed. Ask me how I know. Its odd that its actuall...
Synergistic Grounding Block and Tweaking it. We did a survey about a year and a half ago investigating these devices. The owners had to be able to do a measurement on the associated equipment in there system. What we found was an interesting correlation- in all cases, when the grounding box ...
FUSES??? Just when I just replaced all my PC cords. But he does not supply an upgraded fuse with his amps. I can not find a post where he states which fuse to the ears of his customers sounds the best. The amplifier builders I have talked with are not interested in evaluating fuses , power cords...
can we measure noise on power lines? Fluke Instruments published a white paper on the effects of the 5th harmonic on the power line about 25 years ago. The effects of the 5th harmonic can be increased power transformer noise, increased diode radiation and it can cause synchronous mot...
More resistance is less load?? Yes- you get lower power into higher impedances with solid state amps. But you also get lower distortion- essentially the amp will sound smoother and more detailed as a result. |
