Class D is just Dandy! Ralph, it appears to me that what underlies much of the disagreement between you and Erik is that he is viewing the impedance of an output coupling capacitor, if present, as contributing to and being part of the component’s output impedance. Wh...
Class D = Trash? 1. Is there a consensus among amp designers that current switching frequencies (what I believe you're calling 'scan frequencies') being too low is the primary cause of 'inharmonic distortion'? If so, is there also a consensus that raising swit...
Class D is just Dandy! I don’t "blame" preamps for changes in frequency response. I say high output impedance causes frequency response changes which vary based on the load. This is an irrefutable fact based on simple serial circuit analysis. Anyone with a basic unde...
Class D is just Dandy! A statement of fact is not an attack. You are taking this personally. Here’s the work:What, exactly, are you claiming is a result of the choice of coupling cap? Distortion or output impedance? Here’s a formula for calculating cutoff frequency:F=1,...
Class D is just Dandy! I'm sure you make fine products, but would you then please explain the variance in all the tube preamps in the Stereophile section if not due to output impedance issues? My prior post was a correction and not an attack. I was merely pointing out...
Amps Atma-Sphere M-60 Mono blocks OTL design So far we've yet to hear about any hum problems with the Sophia or TJ Music tube. Al's report is the first I've seen.We made a circuit change in our amps regarding how our filament circuit is handled about 12 years ago. That really reduced the hum...
Help: Accuphase XLR pin 3 hot into XLR pin 2 hot? (no unbalanced avail) Don't worry about it!! Exactly 1/2 of your recordings are out of polarity anyway so its not going to affect things for the most part.
Class D is just Dandy! The biggest issue with input/output impedance is the change in frequency response. This is especially bad with tube pres as they usually have a high output impedance. Driving a low impedance input amp can affect the overall response and deviate...
Class D = Trash? ^^ one of the artifacts of Class D is is that there can be intermodulations between the scan frequency and the the signal being amplified. You can see this in the specs if the spectrum of distortions is graphed. So there isn't a lack of evidence!In...
Balanced or single ended phono cable to Aesthetix Io? It is a simple matter to install a balanced cable on an SME5; you just plug it in.Rewiring the arm with no connectors at all sounds like a tricky job, but its a fact that eliminating connectors will help.BTW that is how the Triplanar is wired.
Small room electrostat/ planar speaker? The Quad ESL57 is comfortable in smaller rooms. Its a very nice speaker; the Prima Luna will have no troubles with it but you might have to be careful about the volume. There are protection circuits available for the speaker now.
New Technics SL 1200 GAE Just a FWIW y'all, regarding the original post.We have successfully mounted a 12" Triplanar to the SL1200GAE. The combination is fabulous!
How do tube manufacturers like VAC get 55 watts per KT88 where others get only 30-35? If your KT-88 amp is only making about 35 watts, it could be because the power tubes are wired in Triode mode. This is done by tying the screen to the plate. Output power is reduced but so is distortion as the tube is a lot more linear in triode m...
Grado cartridges still worth the money? We use a low output Grado in our Triplanar; its very musical, highly detailed and tracks everything- no complaints.
Class D = Trash? I'm very interested in checking out your take on the first Atmasphere class D amp. Too early to share any insider details like modules chosen. type of power supply adopted, any customized components, target price and expected release dat... |
