Do preamps have a material affect on high level sources?
The balanced Backert Labs Rhumba would be a good example. Any preamp that supports the balanced standard would do the same thing. That is one reason balanced preamps can sound better- you don't hear the effects of the interconnect cable.
Backert Labs Rhumba preamp
:)  Glad to hear its worked out!
Do preamps have a material affect on high level sources?
So as you can see this talk about active preamps being able to control the cables capacitance, is a huge furphy, thought up by active preamp makers to aid in their product sales.Almost any audiophile on this forum has heard interconnect cables m...
One Amp To ‘Rule’ Them All....
No. With amplifiers - **all** amplifiers- its all about distortion- what distortion the amp makes and what distortion it doesn't make. Because the ear converts all forms of distortion into tonality (a fact that has been known since at least the 19...
Do preamps have a material affect on high level sources?
^^Yes to all of the above.
Which Class D Amplifier? PS Audio, Ghent, Nord, Merrill or other???
^^ The reason we aren't using GaNs yet is we are in a prototype stage. We developed a means of eliminating the need for dead time circuitry in class D amps (for which we have a patent pending). The main reason to use GaNs is to minimize dead time (...
Do preamps have a material affect on high level sources?
A good preamp will have very low distortion at the levels needed to drive a power amp and wider bandwidth than the source. The main things that a good preamp brings to the table is a better volume control than the ones found in most DACs (there isn...
Vinyl vs high def audio i.e. 24bit / 96 or 192khz
From all the response so far, it seems like turntables are really for people who have a predisposition to love records, either because you guys already have a large collection, or because you could relate to it. While there might be some level ...
Which Class D Amplifier? PS Audio, Ghent, Nord, Merrill or other???
I'm also curious about how your development of a class D amp is progressing and whether it will utilize GaN or any other newer technology.  @noble100Right now we're not using GaN transistors but they are certainly on the radar. So far we've ...
Get your First Watt SIT-3 now?
Actually, it seems like your speakers are among the highest efficient speakers and that most of the reviews or users reported no problems driving less efficient speakers. I don’t recall anyone having problems regarding the XA25 not adequately d...
Who are some of elite sub woofers?
The Audiokinesis Swarm is one of the best subwoofer systems out there. Most do things like 'bass in the room but not at the listening chair' due to standing waves in the room; the Swarm solves this problem (provides uniform bass at all frequencies...
Get your First Watt SIT-3 now?
V-FETs are finicky! The amp could be changed over but there would be more than just replacing the output transistors. Even the old V-FETs are hard to find. BTW the kit that was offered makes about 25 watts. IMO the V-FET was the solid state soluti...
Tube Question for Audiophriends
That's a pentode. Its a signal tube, not an output tube.
Can we start a thread for folks who run a SET amp with a subwoofer or two?
“a set of Classic Audio Loudspeakers model T-3s” And they are powered by? Amp specs please?I run them with an Atma-Sphere S-30 (a triode OTL with only one stage of gain) which can make about 45 watts into 16 ohms. The S-30 is full power to 2Hz so ...
Small or big tubes/valves for pre amp ?
This worries me a bit to hear, although I am no bass freak, I like tight bass, using a solid state power amp instead of tube power amp make any difference?'Tight bass' isn't natural bass, FWIW. It usually occurs in stereo systems where the woofe...
