Why so many tubes?
There's a 50cc class of racing motorbikes. Back in the 50s and 60s it became all about how many cylinders you could get to displace only 50cc. Things got real small and because things really didn't weigh all that much revs were over 20,000! So the...
Looking for new speakers for large audio room
@shawarma  Classic Audio Loudspeakers makes two speakers you might want to look at. The first is the T1 and the second the T3. They are 98dB so will be able to fill your room with a moderate amount of power (I suggest about 100 watts minimum). The...
Why so many tubes?
Seems like a complicated way to reproduce music. And yes a little bit of laziness involved, but electrical engineers make lousy writers as the subject is a difficult exposition. So some of tubes are the same as the power transformers? And I am o...

How important is the pre-amp?
That was the standard and had the very significant advantage of simplicity of the signal path. More recent marketing efforts promote balanced connectivity. Balanced topology imposes twice the circuitry into the signal path. Abandoning single-e...

ARC is point to point vs Rogue circuit board?Huh? That's news- I've never heard of a hand-wired ARC product. All that I've ever seen have employed circuit boards.
Amp more important than speakers?
For the last 50 years or so there's been the tubes/transistors debate. I really do wonder how that can be and speakers more important than the amplifier given how willing people are to debate that topic. If you don't like tubes, you'll get a solid...
Why so many tubes?
If direct path is preferred in the speaker by most, why the acceptance of a glass army in one's amp/preamp? Not sure what is meant by 'direct path'... But if you need a lot of power, you might need a lot of tubes to make that power. If so, they'll...

@jimbones Well then its 8 ohms, but the efficiency in all cases remains the same. I think you're better off with the dual woofers, because you have more surface area for making bass and less excursion. Putting them in series works great for tubes.

There are 2 woofer in each cabinet. The woofers themselves are 90db. but with 2 in parallel it is higher but I dont have exact measurements of efficiency. speakers are 4 ohm.@jimbones Tube amps do not double power as impedance is cut in half. Th...

my own 2 way speakers two MW16P and TW29R Satori drivers. Is that between 2 cabinets or just in 1?Do you have any idea of the efficiency and impedance of the speakers? In a room that size 100-130 watts will work if the speakers are 92dB although you...
Using solid state rectifiers on Cary SLI80 Amplifier
The bottom line, though, after listening to many different pieces of music, other changes accompanying what sounded like improvements in clarity started surfacing. Upper mid and higher frequencies have become more sharp to shrill which doesn’t app...
How important is the pre-amp?
So in the end, would a high quality integrated be the best way to go (assuming one likes the sound of the unit) due to one less pair of cables, electrical cord, etc?Note the word 'best' in the question above. Integrated amps are a set of comprom...

@jimbones What loudspeakers are you planning to use and how big is your room?
Using solid state rectifiers on Cary SLI80 Amplifier
if part of that feature is to more slowly ramp up the application of power, will that not also affect these diodes’ reaction speed overall and negate the reason for their substitution in the first place?Yes, to a certain degree. You don't have t...
