Amp Recommendations for Marantz 7c I recently acquired a Marantz 7 with intentions in setting up a second system that would be more or less a vintage set up. @c_cocobean I hope the work you are having done is having the power supply rebuilt in that preamp (or it was recently don...
Competitive class D amp suggestions this is what I always wanted to hear! It only remains to experience it unless it is taken as faith @niodari Its easy enough to hear. You don't have to take it on faith.
Balanced versus single ended That said, I do find differences in mfg XLR cables (including length of identical cables), which could be the XLRs themselves, and/or quality of solder/ joints, as well as the wire, shielding, jacketing... @tweak1 This is why I harp about AES48...
Balanced Line Stage Tube Preamps @hickamore The Backert achieves its balanced line operation by the use of an output transformer. If you are going to use tubes to drive a balanced line, to my knowledge there are only two ways: an output transformer or a direct-coupled technique p...
Is an unbalanced preamp a bad thing? The streamer i use recommends XLR, a lumen. So wtf should you do? I guess you need to buy really good RCA cables to address any deficiencies. And the rabbit hole gets deeper Of course one of the goals of balanced operation is to eliminate the ’...
Cartridge Loading.....Part II The first question that needs to be addressed is in a perfect world with ideal amplification, will a 40Ω cartridge sound the same into a 5Ω load as a 47kΩ load? Right up to this point I was in agreement with the prior text of this post. With t...
Is an unbalanced preamp a bad thing? Voice from the past...RCA connectors have been working fine since the 1940s. I'm going to guess it's got a few more decades left in it. 😀 XLRs have been around almost as long- back in the 1940s though they used barrier strips.
GaN amps: Peachtree or LSA Voyager? The A/Bs I'm talking about are the Van Alstine DVA M225 monos. Surely you know Frank and his products. Care to comment on his matching GBP to feedback? There's no way to tell from the information on the web. But I can tell you this: in conventi...
Competitive class D amp suggestions Hi Ralph: Do you any plans for a Class D preamp in the future? Technically that is possible but we've no plans currently. How one can know that it has "enough power"? Strange things happen. I have tried large Thiel speakers with a 200 watts c...
Balanced versus single ended Hi @atmosphere, can you discuss what you just said in context with my Audionet Max amps and Pre G2 Preamp? Thanks! No- there is too little information on their website.
Balanced versus single ended You absolutely convinced me that I did not need an expensive IC when using your amps and preamp. Has that changed now that I am using my AGD amps? @mglik I don't believe so. @teo_audio Beyond that, it is a degeneration in sound quality, du...
Balanced Line Stage Tube Preamps If you are looking at a balanced line tube preamp, its helpful to ask if the preamp supports AES48. If the manufacturer does not know, that likely means 'no'. One advantage of going balanced (properly) is that you no longer have to buy expensive ...
GaN amps: Peachtree or LSA Voyager? reading up on Gain Bandwidth Product, it seems to be present with designs using the bipolar junction transistor. @mrdecibel to be clear, all circuits with gain have Gain Bandwidth Product. The question is does it have enough to support the fee...
GaN amps: Peachtree or LSA Voyager? I’m very curious what good A/B brings to the party. 'Harsh and bright', IME, unless the designer has really done their homework and has enough Gain Bandwidth Product in the design to support the feedback it employs. If not, the feedback will de...
Linlai 6SN7 All my tubes run very hot except for Linlai. Could the tubes be an issue? The Linlai tube has a larger envelope and so has greater surface area to shed heat. Don't worry about it! |
