What's better, one conductor or two conductors for an RCA interconnect?
@kijanki I try to always use caps in the spelling too. @jumia Look at it this way. If the signal is passing through the shield as it does when only the shield and center connection is present, then the construction of the shield and any noise to ...
Higher sensitivity - more dynamic sound?
Electrostatic speakers can have compression from transformer saturation at high power levels Just to clarify on this comment, at the point the transformer saturates it will also be making distortion and thus describe an upper limit on the range...
Eminent Technology 8b Speakers - Amp/wattage Recommendations
I would think it might be good assumption, but I’m not sure about tube amps. It would be better to ask tube amp experts like atmasphere. @atmasphere Ralph, could you chime in? Does limitting low end allow to play louder? I know that with some am...
Class D amplifier with TPA 3250 board
@kokakolia Seriously, getting an amp to be quiet on a speaker that's only 91 dB should be a walk in the park! 15W seems surprisingly low for a speaker rated with that low sensitivity FWIW!
Higher sensitivity - more dynamic sound?
The 86dB efficiency speaker on a 250W amp has more total dynamics to cover incoming source material of a wider dynamic content than the 102dB/20w amp system. Huh? Why? The dynamic range is a function of the recording being played back. Its not ...
Is it me or new audio gear is too perfect and give ear fatigue?
For example, my current DAC is a Chinese DAC that measures extremely well. @arize84 Topping makes some DACs that are quite smooth on top and measure well and are also inexpensive. High end audio is not driven by cost, its driven by intent. Howe...
Class D amplifier with TPA 3250 board
@kokakolia Sure, but if you have a subwoofer already it might compensate right? If you drive the sub from the preamp, yes. My OGY speakers are very efficient at 91db SPL. That's not high efficiency! That's a moderate efficiency; you enter...
Which would you choose for good sounding tube preamp for an audiophile new to tubes.
I am looking for a little warmth in the sound and no harshness. I want some slam and afraid I will lose it if I go with tubes. @arichison Lose the fear. The only thing you have to look out for is to make sure that at 20Hz, the output impedance ...
What's better, one conductor or two conductors for an RCA interconnect?
Let us change the problem to a phono cartridge and a pre-amp. By your understanding, even if one side of the phono amp input is grounded, the system is "differential", and hence will receive the full benefits of twisted pair wiring. That is wrong...
Is it me or new audio gear is too perfect and give ear fatigue?
Curious if people feel the same? Ear fatigue is caused by higher ordered harmonic distortion that isn't masked by the music or lower ordered harmonics. Its also caused by intermodulations and aliasing in digital gear (which is intermodulations ...
Higher sensitivity - more dynamic sound?
Is there a hardcore technical speaker designer in the house? @deludedaudiophile there is- his name is Duke @audiokinesis
Higher sensitivity - more dynamic sound?
I would think that the frequency effects of compression would be more worrying than a change in maximum output? @deludedaudiophile Good point and one more problem to add to the list...  If the speakers are inefficient, powering them really won'...
Higher sensitivity - more dynamic sound?
Higher sensitivity is better as long as its not achieved by simply paralleling drivers, resulting in a lower impedance. Lower impedance causes amplifiers regardless of type, to make more distortion. If the speaker is low sensitivity, one common ...
Class D amplifier with TPA 3250 board
One thing to watch in these less expensive amps is the bass response. Not unlike what Radio Shack did with some of their lower powered amps back in the early 1970s, a lot of them I've looked at have the low frequencies curtailed- likely for the sa...
Phono stage options - balanced with XLR both input and output...
You're mistaken - ARC was building balanced, differential amplifiers and preamplifiers long before the design became popular. The Reference One preamp goes back to the mid-90s, for example. @cleeds Atma-Sphere was the first to offer a balanced ...
