MoFi controversy
The rep also stated that they would even occasionally go to the trouble of ’baking’ the master to improve the transfer ( which at the time i thought as odd). @daveyf Baking the tape is done to chase water molecules out of the polyester tape bac...
Class D amplifier with TPA 3250 board
As far at the argument that an amp was tested and it was 10 percent distortion??? @timlub That came from the specs published by the manufacturer of the chips: TA2024 10% at full power (10W) TA2020 10% at full power (13W) TA2022 10% at full p...
MoFi controversy
Most lathes preview the a digital file which allows the lathe to cut within its safe parameters. All analog cuts that turn out great might be "minor miracles".  I'm sure @atmasphere can explain the preview process better.  The preview process i...
MoFi controversy
FWIW dept: I ran an LP mastering operation for about 10 years. LPs get mastered from digital source files all the time. The trick is to make sure that the file you're working with does not contain the DSP stuff that the digital release file does....
Anyone Know Where To Get The 4 Big Can Caps?
@arianabonsai  Mouser Electronics No-one makes 67,000uF anymore. 68,000 is the standard value and easy to find. The amp won’t have any problems with this. You may notice the new parts are smaller- that’s normal. Be careful to order the correct d...
Why do hipsters prefer analog?
Stuff's really hip man, super cool 😎
Good cassette player?
Seems I want one with their discreet heads, but simple internals. The ones with three heads have a way of the record head failing. The head is rare and expensive (+$300). So if you are looking at such a machine, make sure it records on both cha...
Paper cone drivers/natural materials
The midrange of my loudspeakers uses a beryllium dome diaphragm and has no breakups in the audio passband. Beryllium is an element and thus natural. Paper is man-made so isn't :) Guitar speakers use paper because it breaks up in a certain fashion ...
Phono stage options - balanced with XLR both input and output...
I agree with lewm that cartridges are not inherently balanced (only 2 terminals) @hagtech A balanced source will not have a center tap. This is because a center tap will decrease the Common Mode Rejection Ratio (CMRR) on account of the fact tha...
Higher sensitivity - more dynamic sound?
Both speakers can have the same dynamic range assuming a sufficiently powerful enough amp for the lower efficiency speaker. @jonwolfpell This statement is false; the reasons why explained on the first page of this thread.
What's better, one conductor or two conductors for an RCA interconnect?
So how does the RCA connector accommodate 2 connectors(positive and negative) and a ground wire. @jumia Simply by careful soldering.
Is it me or new audio gear is too perfect and give ear fatigue?
Topping Dacs do not sound good in the mid range with human voices. They sound shrill. Many Ess dacs sounds like this. @laoman  Obviously, since you quoted my prior post, you can imagine I don't agree with this. I use recordings I made as refer...
Amplifier current vrs watts; why is current more important?
I'm far from an electrical expert but I'm starting to understand the above. So far the criteria I've gathered from research is to look for: Amps that double wattage from 8-4-2ohms Amps that are 2ohm stable Larger power supplies @christian...
What's better, one conductor or two conductors for an RCA interconnect?
The second standard is Differential input RCA which is balanced like XLR and uses two wires to send signal on wire one and inverted signal on wire two. No shield is used. There is no standard for balanced differential amplification using an RCA...
Is it me or new audio gear is too perfect and give ear fatigue?
Again, not trying to offend anyone on new gear, I just feel the specs are near perfect in the tonality. @webking185  They aren't. Please reread my initial posts on this thread. None of all amplifier designs made prior to about 1995 had enough...
