Is Audio nirvana real?
*L* The only time(s) I've been paranoid about my system is when I've hit the switch(s) and nada occurs...  Then you go 'noid into the WTF zone....But I guess that's why it's called a 'surprise'....*G*
Is Audio nirvana real?
As usual, heaven is in your mind.Mind over matter.I don't mind, and it doesn't matter. And more of that, ad infinitum, ad nauseum.....*L*Be happy with what you have, or be happy over the pursuit of 'happy'.I'm a bit of both, depending on what I'm f...
Outboard crossover? Why not?
At the risk of annoying purists....I'm running a Behringer active xover, but I play about with diy speakers and odd 'hybrid' mixes...albeit not in the 'audiophile sphere' of units available and/or favored.  It does allow a wide range of types, slo...
Upgrade my DAC or buy more weed?
Buy one used, the other new.....I'm sure you can figure that formula out...if not, you should pause on smoking and let me know what it is or was...*L*
Would owning Hoover Dam improve the midrange?
....sounds like just another power trip to me. *L*Having just seen Star Trek Beyond and it's use of the Beastie Boys as a weapon makes me want some warp coils driving gawd knows what sort of speakers....volume to 10 to the tenth........but then, t...
What is going on? No-one buys good stuff priced right.
...for your listening 'pleasure' and perhaps a form of education:'Industrial Disease' by Dire Straits.Still funny, and still wayyy too true.IMHO, all of y'alls comments have elements of the Truth.  Too expensive, too 'niche', too esoteric, too sel...
Why a digital media player instead of a dedicated computer?
I'm sticking to a 'puter, but planning to return to a dedicated one.  I've a Cooler Master low-profile case that can hold a micro ATX board, 2 CD drives if I opt for that, and has enough space for a pair of terabyte drives.  The plan is to have it...
Whats playing on your system today?
At this moment...Supertramp, "Take The Long Way Home"Spooky Tooth, "Waitin' On The Wind" (Ain't nothin' like a Hammond C4...)Elton John, "Madman Across The Water"
You can only take 5 albums to a deserted Island...
If it was a 'world class system' it'd have access to stream-casting, Spotify, et all.  And it'd have to be one hell of well appointed 'deserted island' to be able to support and maintain said system...which I'd hack Something building a raft to ta...
Is anyone thinking about building Walsh drivers?
Upper drivers for the V.4's partially completed and tested.  Wonders never cease, they work AND pretty much as intended.  Having 4 units 'act' the same, at least to one's ears, I'll chalk up to spending a certain amount of time 'building between m...
When and what was your last significant equipment upgrade?
Building and listening to my set of 4 Walsh speakers.  Next upgrade is the new and improved version of the same, in the same quantity.Unlike the original Ohm's, they're a '2 way' with a smaller unit above the lower and larger driver.  The larger d...
Help wanted: Bass!
I'll vote with Eric....get some measurements so you can analyze what's really going on before playing the 'musical equipment swap' game or other high $ experiments.  Treating the room (which you'd rather not do anyway) can be avoided with active e...
Loudspeakers have we really made that much progress since the 1930s?
I can't resist tossing my 2 sense into the fray...*G*Theory and the math behind remains the same; we measure them better and more precisely now...Materials and means have improved; 'mass market' offerings have improved, but are subject to 'cost an...
Retract offer
I think the common thread is read the rules of the pool before you venture into it.  It's always the fine print that'll rule the day.Sorry about your plight, sang.  Good luck with it.
Anybody else using a distributed array sub system?
noble1K, thanks for posting about the DEBRA.  I'd not known of this approach to subs or sub systems.  The whole concept appeals to me and makes too much sense IMHO.'Distributed bass' in your case  reads as being more 'seamless' with the balance of...
