The Absolute Sound vs Pleasing Sound
@frogman   You may think you have achieved the "pinnacle" in sound reproduction with your system within your own environment. However, I may hear it and think otherwise, vice versa.... Good point. I used to wonder why so many liked Pioneer. I nev...
The Absolute Sound vs Pleasing Sound
@russ69  "...unamplified acoustic performances remain the standard for judging how close our systems get to the sound of live. Indeed I do but that is about .01% of the type of music I listen to, so why use that as a standard? I agree. Why vo...
If your were to assemble a vintage system ?
@austinstereoGood separates, HK or otherwise, would likely blow this budget. Indeed today they would. Amp alone is $2k for one that needs repaired. I figure it may have in the 70’s when I bout the 730. But I suspect the budget of 1500 is still pre...
How do I play YouTube music from my IMac thru my Conrad-Johnson amps?
You may be able to cast it to a smart TV which is connected to your stereo. Or a Roku. But I believe you will need the TV in the path with either route. I have a Roku Ultra with a USB output. However, I don’t have a USB in on my preamp. A HT recei...
If your were to assemble a vintage system ?
Amazed that no one has mentioned Harmon Kardon. Also amazed how many liked Pioneer. I never heard one that I liked and I heard a lot of them. And I cringe at Luxman. Worst purchase of my life. But we all have different preferences and hearing I su...
Funny how streaming/digital still chases that analog benchmark.
I’m going to say this once more. Whenever I see/hear someone talk about surface noise, pops & clicks, etc, I KNOW they have NEVER heard a good vinyl setup.
What's in your CDP tonight? the minority report
Last night I listened to Tears For Fears - "Everybody Loves a Happy Ending"  My son 1st turned me on to it. I was never a big fan of the group (duo) but this is very good for a last album from a duo who had been on a 10+ year hiatus. I guess for t...
Why would 2 schiit aegir amps sound the same as 1?
@varchardYou are apparently buying into the idea that more watts are better. That is not the case unless you have a hard to drive inefficient speaker. My speakers are 93.5 db efficient. The best move I made was replacing a CJ 250wpc amp with a 35w...
Cartridge suggestions for...
With that arm you should be able to use anything. Can't say I've tried them all. But I have a  Zyx 4D which replaced a Benz Ebony L which was also a good cartridge. The Zyx is better, but I lived happily with the Benz while I had it. I have an Ori...
Can't believe I let myself get sucked in again.
@artizen65  Getting abused as usual. Yep. That's why I post here more often now. I actually left here  1st time because AA had a better sense of community at the time. That was 15-18 yrs ago. Now everyone on most every BB is  a self appointed cr...
Funny how streaming/digital still chases that analog benchmark.
@mrbobmBut a well designed streaming system does something that neither LP’s or CD’s can do alone. Namely it allows me to quickly and easily enjoy the music on many other levels. I can for example:1) read notes on the album2) read a biography of t...
Teac NT-505 on Closeout by Walmart
@big_gregI assume that  the quality of the coax cable running from my cdp to the Teac streamers Dac is important? Is that correct? It will be interesting to see IF the Teac DAC is better than the Theta Miles DAC. Looking at the Pangea XL & the...
Can't believe I let myself get sucked in again.
Welcome back. I've been here since 2000 but went over to the asylum for a long time.
Funny how streaming/digital still chases that analog benchmark.
@glupson People outside of this very small group of "audiophiles" cannot care less for analog sound. Yep. Yer right. Most listen to mp3's and have no clue about bitrate or codecs, etc. Cheap & convenient is what they want. Digital does fulfi...
Teac NT-505 on Closeout by Walmart
@big_gregWill do. I may be asking advice when I get it setup and gain understanding of its functions. It seems to get very good reviews, Seems that the biggest challenge is in finding the software that's easiest for the end user to understand.
