Anyone Successfully Go from Floor Standers to Bookshelf Monitors w/ Subs?
Well, FWIW, I have decided to stick with the floor standers (Silverline). They  sound excellent. Kind of concerned that unless one has a fat wallet, the monitors will be too much chance of going backward instead of forward. Thanks for the input
Should I replace Denon DL-103R with Dynavector DRT-XV1 mounted
assuming the rest of the system is capable to reproduce the sound Dynavector cart delivers? Therein is the key. You cannot put a Catch can on a 100 HP engine and expect an improvement. On a 700-800-900 HP, it will make a difference. A time & ...
More Power Part II
I've had 600 wpc to 35 wpc amps over a 50 he period. The 3 best were a 45 wpc  Harmon Kardon ss and a 35 & 60 wpc tube amp. I replaced a 250 wpc with the 35 wpc and never looked back. High watt amp are not needed unless for a PA system.
Raven Audio Nighthawk
I haven’t heard the Blackhawk, but like you, I have been  interested. I Had to look up your ST 45 amp. Nice. I have Don’s Kootenay amp and like it a lot. However I was also interested in the Dynaco Mk 3’s which looks like the basis of this amp. Ho...
Mods which don't harm re-sale
Footers are one way. Its more a tweak than mod. But  It's amazing that even the material, (wood, vs metal vs stone) can make a difference. My 1st encounter was reading about pumice stone under my cdp. Being a skeptic, I figured I could afford a co...
Anyone Successfully Go from Floor Standers to Bookshelf Monitors w/ Subs?
Wow! So many responses to answer. Thanks guys. FWIW, the Watkins Gen 4 have a return policy and Watkins Stereo is about 3 miles from my house. So, they wouldn’t be that hard to return. Once again, I have 2 Rel S5 subs (with Sumiko S-10 badges) So ...
Anyone Successfully Go from Floor Standers to Bookshelf Monitors w/ Subs?
Thanks for the answers so far. FWIW, I have 2 Sumiko S10 subs which are a clone of the Rel S5. they have Fiberglass Cones instead of metal (I believe that is correct). The speaker size and amps are the same size 12" & power 550 watts as well a...
Top 5 recievers of the 70's and 80's ????
Harmon Kardon  HK 730 twin power. I bought the Luxman R115 to replace it when a channel quit working (Power Supply). I HATED every minute with the Luxman. No bass line whatsoever. Just a thump of the bass drum. I had Original Large Advents so I kn...
Anyone know how to determine bitrate/res on Stereophonic?
I answered this once but see it is gone for some reason. maybe I didn't hold my mouth right. I don't really understand the question but I have been downloading since Napster and have an understanding of bitrate. I don't know a formula. And I haven...
Anyone know how to determine bitrate/res on Stereophonic?
I know about bitrate but don't understand your question. If its Mp3 it will usually say that on playback. You can look at the file size and the length to also get an idea. Lossless is mostly Flac or M3a  for PC. I believe it is about 768>. Cant...

@pblayer maximum of 80" to keep speakers apart. That is sufficient. My towers are only 86" center to center The idea for an all in one system besides $ saving is the convenienceI certainly understand convenience. The older I get the more I under...
plinth for tts8000
@lewm It is those planes perpendicular to the compressive force present when slate was formed that I think makes slate a good material for dissipating energy, and why it does not ring, as other "stones" may do I looked up slate’s hardness compare...
First HIFI system
@mapman Maybe you are right. I can't say. But I DO know that there is a t least one generation that listen to Mp3's and think they sound good. Some musicians I have played music with, think 128mbps is CD quality. Since the vinyl resurgence, 've se...

+1 for Miller.FWIW, I have aa lot of misgivings about a piece of equipment that does everything but make my breakfast. may be  inexpensive, but it reminds me of one of those all ion one woodworking machines that do a little bit of everything but n...
What is a reasonable discount from MSRP from a local dealer?
I'm not sure MSRP means anything in the modern market. Though I agree with mc, everyone knows you have to play the game of asking  a ridiculous MSRP and then sell it everyday with at least 20% off and often 1/3 off.
