How would you describe the sound of Luxman vs. McIntosh SS integrateds
OP: Back when I was looking to change my integrated amp, I listened extensively to several McIntosh and Luxman models. On the McIntosh side of the house, I auditioned MA252, MA352 (at Magnolia), MA8000 at a local seller’s house, and MAC6700 at ano...
Wolf Audio
@thewolfaudio -- First off, congratulations for crafting such great products. I hear nothing but the highest praise from several members here and other forums. I checked out your website but not sure if you build a specific type of product that I'...
Best Server To Run Roon Core
@newtoncr -- it was actually I who asked about the differences between Lumin U1 and Wolf Audio. Thank you for the detailed comparison. Very helpful, and sounds like you’re thrilled with the server. I was seriously considering Lumin U1 at one point...
My MA252 saga
@skypunk -- interested in reading about the comparison between the Pathos InPol 2 and Blackhawk. I don't want to hijack this thread, but hopefully you can start a new one.
Best Server To Run Roon Core
@newtoncr -- I’ve heard a lot about Wolf Audio but never had the opportunity to audition their equipment. I would appreciate it if you can describe the improvements over Lumin and Innuos especially in terms of sonic abilities. Lumin is a well know...
Best or Most Interesting Speakers
Yeah that opticalRendu is a great product. I recently tested the Lumin U1 in my system, courtesy of my neighbor, and we both agreed that the opticalRendu does a much better job of reducing the noise floor at half the price.
Newbie HiFi Headphone & Amp pairing suggestions
I think you will be very happy with the Brooklyn Bridge and Audeze combo as they compliment each other very nicely. I only recommended RME ADI-2 because I felt it was a better value, but not necessarily better sound quality. The Brooklyn Bridge co...
Newbie HiFi Headphone & Amp pairing suggestions
@fourminutesong -- given that the Audeze tilts towards warm and lush, and Mytek prioritizes a very pristine, detailed sound signature, the resulting synergy will be very balanced.Having said that, personally, I'm not a fan of ESS/Sabre chip design...
Best Server To Run Roon Core
@jmarshak -- you didn’t mention how many endpoints you plan to run simultaneously, and whether you are going to use DSP (e.g. Roon’s Convolution engine or parametric EQ). If your DAC is going to upsample to high-res formats like DSD, then that mat...
Takedown of pricey servers, streamers OCD HiFi guy
The point is you’re paying for someone’s time, research, knowledge and know-how. Not to forget the opportunity cost as well as the cost of running a business. Actual cost of parts is a small part of the equation. And this sort of thing is not just...
I have been wanting to try using a tube amp.
@millercarbon [Nighthawk is a pretty good step up from Blackhawk, it uses all their higher end caps.] I thought the Blackhawk was the step up model from the Nighthawk.
Takedown of pricey servers, streamers OCD HiFi guy
I pretty much agree with the ocd video. A music streamer/server are computers: period. Most run proprietary operating systems but that doesn’t make them better, and personally, I wouldn’t want a 1 off operating system. These server vendors have so...
Newbie HiFi Headphone & Amp pairing suggestions
@fourminutesong -- Yes, Audeze are very heavy. If you plan to listen for more than an hour or so, I can tell you that you'd notice the weight. But IMO, you get used to it. My current setup is a Node 2i >> Audio Mirror Tubadour II DAC >>...
Luxman L-590AXII vs Pass Labs INT-60
@georghifi -- All else being equal for current delivery into low impedances (power supply etc), I would go the Luxman for bipolar outputs as they aren’t phased by low impedance speakers and current delivery as much as mosfets are.I don’t know abou...
Your thoughts on my plans..
OP: The issue is not watts per se but current, or the lack thereof. Most AVR manufacturers have mastered the game of showing excellent wattage numbers and THD and all the jazz! The simple fact is that unless you get a dedicated 2 channel amp with ...
