Remove your bias for better sound I have tried the VPI anti skating mechanism. I have also used the wire twist method. Harry states that very little AS force is needed for the 10.5 arm. I found that the VPI AS mechanism exerts too much force even at its lowest setting. I use 1 sin...
Broken cantilever Need options... Soundsmith does top notch work. If I were in your situation, I would contact Peter at soundsmith to see if he could repair it. I am almost certain he could. It all comes down to how much money do you want to spend. If it bothers you that the repla...
Which cartridge do you use with the vpi classic? I have reconsidered my last statement. After reading several more threads, I have discovered there seems to be a hum problem with the grados when paired with the classic. Grados are un-shielded and this seems to cause feedback with the classics al...
Which cartridge do you use with the vpi classic? I purchased a soundsmith boheme before the zephyr was developed. The boheme on the 10.5 jmw arm sounds great. If I were going to purchase a new cart today for my classic, I would be looking at the zephyr and a grado reference.
Results from Eliminating Anti-Skate My memory was sketchy on that video. Chayro is correct. Fremer did leave the device installed but, without any weights
Results from Eliminating Anti-Skate My table came with the VPI anti-skate device. I don't use it. I did watch Fremer's yturntable setup dvd in which he determined that the VPI anti-skate device applied too much force even at it's lowest setting. I do use the wire twist method sugges...
Some Advice Check out the soundsmith line as well. The sussuro looks like a very nice cart. The zephyr is said to be a very good match on vpi arms as well. Very good customer service too.
Using the VPI threaded clamp and azimuth change I got several new products from herbies audio lab a few days ago. One of them was the new thinner spindle washer. It has the same outside demension and spindle size hole as the stock VPI washer but is about half as thick. It is made from grungebus...
Using the VPI threaded clamp and azimuth change I am quite sure I am using my washer and clamp in the correct manner. It still does, and will continue to dish the record every time you tighten it down. It is physically impossible for it to be level when it has this washer acting as a spacer bet...
Why do my rolling stones albums sound bad? I am still really enjoying the some girls live in texas ( london green shoe cowboys). This was remastered by bob clearmountain from the 5 channel mix. It sounds really good. The Muddy waters and stones live at checker board lounge sounds good as w...
Using the VPI threaded clamp and azimuth change It seems impossible to keep the record flat with the washer underneath. The washer holds the LP 1/8" above the platter so, the only way that the LP can make contact with the platter on the outer edges is to dish the LP slightly downward. In my sit...

New terrastone footers and plinth for VPI classic1 I have no experience with the symposium shelf. The standard terrastone platform like I have is 1" thick. It then has adjustabble brass points that add another 3/4" to the overall height to make it 1-3/4" overall. The platform material itself is 1"...
New terrastone footers and plinth for VPI classic1 I also have the terrastone footers that have the adjustable brass feet. Mine are not the type pictured on the edensound website with the white bearing on top. I do have some pictures that dan sent me. I would be glad to send those on to anyone who...
Where exactly do I add oil to VPI classic motor The brass collar I am speaking of is hidden below the pulley. The collar is held onto the shaft with a single grub screw. This collar is on the spindle to set the height of the pulley and you cannot see it with the pulley installed.Taking the pull... |
