Thiel used Jantzen and ERSE wire coils as equivalents.I have ERSE foils on hand and some Jantzen Wax on order.I will compare them directly, but not yet. I definitely look forward to your impression of the two coils.

Andy - I second your motion. As car guys say, the least expensive option is the one you have. So if you have 2.4s, then upgrading resistors and caps is a huge bang for the buck. It's just so happen that my current car is a 2004 model so I woul...

Sometimes you take it for granted what you have.  After hearing a few garden varieties speakers even at pretty high price, you realize how good the CS2.4.  The only thing I wish for is a bit more bass and I suspect some would agree.  I guess the s...

For me the Magico A3 were very impressive on a number of audiophile score-card characteristics, but they ultimately failed to really engage me. I was wondering if this has to do with Thiel usage of first order design.  I mean if you're already ...
Small drivers vs big drivers
The question is a bit broad and could cover a large response with respect to the advantage and disadvantage of large vs. small driver. First I don't think the OP was interested in line array.  It's a different class of speakers all together.  I th...

Hi Tom,Thanks for the info.  I was actually very surprised to find that large a value for the cap at 400uF+.  Is it because the intrinsic impedance of the driver is somewhat low?  Or is more has to do with the time-phase aligned nature of the xove...
Thiels and Tubes
I currently have the CS2.4.  I also have a pair of Cary Six Pacs monoblocks, and I tried them with the CS2.4 but they couldn't have the current to drive the Thiel.  There was just no dynamic.  I would think you need a rather high power tube amps t...
My impression of Pass Lab XP-10 (with respect to Conrad Johnson 17LS)
After  having spent quite a bit of time between these two preamps, I was surprised that the 17LS is quite a bit brighter vs. the XP10 and the difference is not subtle.  There is a bit of midrange forwardness on the 17LS as well.  The 17LS has the ...

The 2.7 has a huge electrolytic cap bank to roll off the bottom of the midrange where the 8" woofer wants to cross in. Hi Tom,Out of curiosity, since the 3.7 and 2.7 share the same midrange/tweeter driver, wouldn't the 3.7 should also has a lar...

gasman117,It seems that you have the CS2.4?  I do not find them "hot" at all.  Actually I think they are just a touch on the warm side although they are very transparent so it could be the electronics. My front end equipment are Ayre QB9 DSD, Pass ...

A measured of 30.1ohm on the coax xover makes sense.  Based on the coax xover schematic, there is a 30ohm resistor in series with the resistance of the 0.15mh.  The typical resistance of a 0.15mh inductor is probably in the range of 0.1 - 0.3 Ohm....

Finally, what gauge is your new wire and did you have any problems fitting it into the hole on the driver tab? It looks either to be 14AWGhttps://www.madisoundspeakerstore.com/speaker-wire/supra-ply2.0-speaker-wire-per-foot-14-awg/or 12AWG:http...

How did you seal the new wire at the hole where it enters the coax chamber? That would be a challenge since I assume the coax chamber has to be sealed from the bass compartment.  If there is any leakage, it will affect the sound of the coax dri...

Hi holco,Very nice job.  I am curious that if you had to remove the woofer and mid/tweeter from the front baffle in order to connect the new wire?

As we speak, I am now working on the internal Supra wirering with grounding, hopefully with a positive result. I am curious what type of Supra cables you plan to use?  I bought them from Madisound which has reasonably good price.  They are ava...
