Battle of the affordables
I went to Best Buy this morning to listen to the R11, Q11, Martin Logan and B&W.  It’s not an ideal setup.  Some speakers are spaced too wide apart.  The amplification probably not the most ideal either.  Of all the speakers, I actually like t...

I really like the SVS but based on some online reviews there may be sibilance issues.  Looking at some of the measurement, there is a peak at around 4k - 5Khz, which is usually the main cause for sibilance.

btw this list is like one from Honda Civic through a Miata to a pickup truck. Makes no sense to me. You're an audiophile snob.  Just because something is inexpensive, does not mean it cannot sound good.

What will you be driving them with?  That would at least give you an idea if you would be locked into certain specs. I am driving them with a 150W amp - Simaudio W7.  I don't think my amplification is the bottleneck.

Here is what I meant when I said the 888 may lack mid range speed.  Found an online review that share the same thought.   https://www.theabsolutesound.com/articles/best-speakers-5k-to-10k-series-mofi-sourcepoint-888/ There seem to be two parts...

Especially considering the price range OP has laid out:  from 2.1k to 7k. There are others at these price point but these are the one I could find where there are favorable reviews on the web.

I see the SVS but not the MoFi 888’s The 888 has an 8in. mid driver.  It may have limitation in term of mid range dispersion, meaning they might beam at those frequencies.

Great!  Thanks Tom.

What does is it mean for CSS?  Will it be viable for a long while?

For CS 2.4 owners, do you notice the soundstage lacking a bit of image height?
There is no substitute for cubic inch or in this case surface area
Having a small mid driver will improve dispersion and possibly widen the soundstage, but there is a trade off.  A small mid will sound slightly thin in the lower mid range especially on a male vocal vs. a larger mid driver. It's 3in. mid vs. 6in ...
Room treatment can be addictive
What are the affects of first reflection from the side?  How does it affect the soundstage and vocal reproduction? In my listening space, there is a large glass window to my left, and a 50in. LED TV to my right.  They would constitute first refle...

Thanks for Tom as usual for your insights.   I think the CS5 is an example where time coherent was achieved at the expense of a speaker that sounds a bit reticent.  I've read the Stereophile review that the xover consists of a total of 114 compo...

I say that neither Jim nor Thiel Audio would espouse valuing ’"time coherence above other aspects of sound reproduction" I think all speakers design is a compromise.  If one aimed to achieve time coherence design, one compromise other aspects o...

more complete sound, from the harmonic structures, dynamics, and a natural sound balance between all the sounds, so most things don't stick out as not fitting into the picture. I think you could find these qualities in other speakers too.  Not ...
