Leave tube amps always on?
@1extreme @larryi Thx, super helpful explanation and information. A very knowledgeable forum.
Leave tube amps always on?
@1extreme Hi thx for the reply. Do you have an inconsistency in your first paragraph? In the first instance you said tubes don’t consume excess power when turned on, then you follow up with the constant turning on/off shortens tube life. Arent tho...
Charging A Fee To Demo An Amplifier In A Brick & Mortar Store
I see zero issue with that assuming the fee is reasonable and can be used towards store credit. Don’t tubes have a finite life? Smart guy. Separates the buyers from the pikers.

I dont need any more convincing. Mr. Berning’s ZOTL preamp/amp technology is mind blowing performance, like nothing I’ve ever experienced sonically and I don’t want that burn out faster lol.
What tube amp for Harbeth 40.1
I’m not sure about the 40.1, but the newer models, the 40.2 Anniversary and 40.3 XD have an impedance curve that runs about 8 ohms and higher and rarely dips below that, so a pretty easy speaker to drive.  Your only question would be how loud you ...
Leave tube amps always on?
@avanti1960 That’s the conundrum. The NOS Mullard Tubes, all 8 of them in my 2 amps ( a quad per) are EF2 from the early 1960s, are almost impossible to find outside of LTA and prices are over $200 per tube if you do.  Even LTA acknowledges that u...
What isolation feet under your amp with great result?
I replaced my Rega turntable feet with Symposiums Rollerback jr+, almost reasonably priced at a nice 20 percent discount, and I do think it changed the sound to the better, more clarity overall, but it also could all be in my head, but who cares i...
Leave tube amps always on?
No matter the built-in protection, I take the point about gas filled tubes and fires and its enough convincing for me to shut it down every night or when we leave the house. Thanks for that gloriousunicorns :)I guess it just comes down to some dai...
Leave tube amps always on?
@tomic601 Wasn’t Einstein a physicist? They know a thing or two about energy and glass tubes. ;)
Leave tube amps always on?
Berning is a physicist.  I'll try to fnd out the science.
Leave tube amps always on?
@audition_audioYes I thought I made that clear. Thats the suggestion from the designers themselves given the power surge in turning on and off multiple times. My healthy skepticism is questioning that.
Leave tube amps always on?
This is exactly why I'm seeking other input. Thank you.
Does the first reflection point actually matter??
@erik_squires Lol. Ok so you're saying this dude Dennis Foley doesn't know what he's talking about.   Got it.
Does the first reflection point actually matter??
Thx @erik_squires and @optimizeThe GIK 242s are rated from 250, and the 244s from 80. He specifically wanted to match the 35hz +/- 3db point of the Harbeth for smoother results and he thinks bass is the biggest issue in the room. But the investmen...
What tube amp for Harbeth 40.1
@gte357s Sorry just saw your post asking me to elaborate. I don’t have a musical ear and I’m not really expert in describing all the nuances but doubling up and adding a separate preamp with the full zotl architecture implemented clearly changed t...
