Another sign SACD is dying
Dual Disc, huh? I bought one, only to find it doesn't play in my Cary 303/300. I then read the INSIDE of the box, which says the disc may not play on "some" (read: high end) CD players. Would've been nice to have that warning, oh, I dunno, ON THE ...
Best speakers with Pass labs X-350.5
I heard some focal-based speakers at Celestial Audio in Phoenix that were AMAZING with the Pass gear. Their website is www.celestialav.com I think. Their speakers are a bit pricey but are the best-sounding speakers I've heard. In the alternative, t...
Cats and audiophiles
My first cat would listen to anything, but liked rap - for the strong bass, I guess. I hate rap, but sometimes put on Will Smith and the like to humor him.My cat that survived him doesn't care; she listens to everything.
Cayin 15A and 17A Review
Bart,I have a Cary 303/300 (tube and SS output) and I've heard the specs are identical between the 303/300 (at $4k) and one of the Cayin models, but I can't remember which.Do any of the Cayin models have both tube and SS out? Also, have you heard a...
What's the best CD and/or multiplayer today
I found APL's website, but what about TRL? Didn't find it using a quick web search. Help?
You might be an audiophile if...
you're willing to move your heavy speakers and stands from against the wall to listening position rather than having to sell them because your toddler may knock them over in your listening position.-or-You buy things you know has absolutely no fou...
I know I have lost my mind and have gone insane
The only scientifically-grounded explanation I can think of is you have reduced the amount of RF and EMI interference from your cables touching other cables or objects on the floor.Whatever the case, congratulations on your improvement!
Front- vs. Down-Firing Subs and Amp Issue
The arguments against down-firing subs that I've seen revolve around gravity's effects on the woofer. I've never heard a down-firing sub, so I don't have any personal basis to compare the two types.I couldn't find Hardesty's assertion that front-f...
What's the funniest song you ever heard?
Somebody did a song about Gary Hart right after it got out that he slept with...an intern? I can't remember who. I'm told John Denver did the song at some concerts, and a lady was nice enough to send me a tape of it, which I've long since lost. An...
Front- vs. Down-Firing Subs and Amp Issue
Thanks for the insight, Dave. A link to my system is: http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?vdone&1107477492&viewI have a Velodyne CT-120 sub in the system, which I think is not listed in the thread above. It sounds nice, but I keep wond...
Ridge Street Audio Speakers
I talked at length with Robert from RSA; they have a PHENOMENAL deal on their Sasons right now. If I had the money today I would have ordered them on the spot.If anyone here has been interested in these speakers NOW is the time to give Robert a ca...
Idiotic Vertical Biamping Question
Dan,Interestingly, when I asked Steve yesterday about biamping vs. monoblocking (or monobridging, since his monblock conversion bridges the channels of the amp, which he describes on his website at www.smcaudio.com), he stated that he finds better...
Idiotic Vertical Biamping Question
Hmmm...I thought if I went to monoblocks one amp would drive each speaker, which then naturally leads to an apparently hotly-contested issue of whether biwiring (two sets of cable connected to the one set of output binding posts on the amp?) would...
What's the funniest song you ever heard?
Broke,Did some research - looks like Cross wrote it, but the only performance I've heard is Bowers'. I'll have to see if Cross actually sang it, too, and see if I can (legally) download it! :)
