Double your pleasure with same cable throughout? I've tried "cabling out" my system with a couple different brands of cable, and found it was "too much of a good thing" in both cases. At the end of the month I'll try a third manufacturer's cables, and if those don't work out I'll likely go back ...
Ridge Street Poeima vs. Silver Audio Appassion FWIW, the Poiema is great, and so are the Silver Audios. The SA's are faster, more open, and to say they are "bright" was not quite the right word in my system, but yes, they aren't laid back and "warm." When I think "bright" I think Nordost Red D...
Review: REL Acoustics Britannia B-1 Subwoofer Nice review, Jimmy. Which Tyler speakers are you using, and where do you set your sub crossover point? Do you feel the REL or the Velodyne has an advantage over the other at higher XO points, say at 100Hz or so?Thanks!Howard
Need help using a subwoofer crossover Hifi,I wound up buying an ACI Titan and a Marchand XM9 crossover. Life is good, but I'm already wondering what an even better sub and main speakers would do. :)
Best bass response in a $1500 pair monitor? OOf. I missed the B&W question. I'm glad I did. Let's just say I agree with Judy so I don't offend anyone. :)
Best bass response in a $1500 pair monitor? I can't speak for the manufacturers, but I think the general premise is that there's no middle-man markup involved in direct sales. Also, in the case of the guys I mentioned, there's no overhead; they build as they get the orders. The down side is...
Best bass response in a $1500 pair monitor? nOrh mini 9.0's at $1500 on the button. The ScanSpeak Revelator woofer is considered by many to have the best midbass going. You can save a couple hundred by buying the "kit" (cabinets with XO's installed) and sourcing the drivers from Madisound, ...
Best Country/Rock - Poll In the "little more country" category - since most country nowdays *is* country-rock - I gotta throw in Sons of the Desert (self-titled release.) Toby Keith's recent recordings are well-mixed and produced, and what guy doesn't like a dude who writ...
THE LATEST---Gold plated fuses? Despite my skepticism, this thread caused me to try one of the HiFi Tuning fuses. I don't really want to admit this, but I hear a slight difference. I replaced the stock AC line fuse in my McCormack DNA-125 Platinum, and found swith the gold-plate...
Holy Crap What have I done? Whew! This is getting complicated, but I appreciate the input. Let me give you guys more history, an update, and then we'll see what your thoughts are.About 6 months ago I realized my system (http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?vdone&11074...
Holy Crap What have I done? Thanks, guys. This unit has the standard 100Hz crossover frequency. Originally I thought this was the best place for it, given the slope diagrams on Marchand's website. It occurs to me, though, that asking my down-firing sub to reproduce frequenie...
Electrostats Great ideas from all of you, and you've given me alot more to research and think about. Thanks! :)Howard
HDCD a flash in the pan already?? Fat, I have no idea how HDCD works, but you'll find a thread somewhere on here that explains it well, and even suggests it is inferior to a well-recorded standard redbook CD.Kal, nice to see you posting.
Are your kids into audio? Steve, Good plan! :)Luckily, my kids are still very young (girl=2 years and boy=6 months) and I started singing to them and playing them music in the womb. Yes, in part because we thought maybe classical music would actually improve their math ski...
Vandersteen 3a sigs- Tube or SS McCormack seems to be the perfect mate to Vandy's. Steve McCormack himself uses 3A Sigs in his system. I've heard alot of other McCormack owners here over the years talk about that magic combination (though unfortunately I've never heard it myself.) |
