Imaging Problem: Blinding Flash of the Obvious
Good points and ideas by all.RHL, I hadn't thought of the open wall issue, but it's important here because the right wall runs the length of the room (the exterior wall of the house), while the left wall is only 5 feet long before it opens into th...
In what ways is Mark Levinson better than Krell?
Hmmm...good question for Richard Hardesty.
Any one heard "The Five Browns"?
I have the CD but haven't listened to it yet. I'll do so tonight and offer some thoughts.
New Cary CD player303/300 w/ tubes
Reb, Programmer: did you guys happen to find your players at less than the $4k MSRP? I've looked but haven't found any "discounts" yet. Maybe Cary requires its dealers to sell at MSRP(?).
Coping in an Age of Uncertainty
Interesting that this thread is still highly relevant 4 years after its initiation. For those interested in HT as well, I suspect the LCD/Plasma thing in TV's (a similar ordeal) and HDTV/digital TV will likely not be resolved for another 5-7 years...
New Cary CD player303/300 w/ tubes
I heard this players at Celestial Audio and Video in Phoenix, Arizona yesterday. I auditioned it against an ARCAM FMJ CD33 and a $9k CDP made by YPA (a French company I'd never heard of.) The 303/300 BLEW AWAY the other two players. All three were...
Ayre V-5x vs. McCormack DNA 225
I don't know if anyone in this thread is interested, but Steve McCormack has a DNA-500 Rev. A for sale, which is mentioned on his site (www.smcaudio.com). I haven't called for details, but the timing of the ad on his website is consistent with the...
Subwoofer recommendations for mostly music
Newbie,Right you are - I didn't realize the internally-powered boxes were ported, but looking at the website, they are!Hsu was a bad example. Rather than hijack this thread with a protracted digression, I'll look for a thread on best subs for 2-ch...
Subwoofer recommendations for mostly music
Interesting thread. I've never seen so many recommendations for Velodyne subs on a'gon! I own a Velodyne myself and have been quite happy with it, but I haven't shopped subs, so maybe I just don't know what I'm missing.I have two follow-ups that m...
Tweaks That Don't Work
PS: when I say "he had just a short bit to say about tweaks" I'm referring to a segment in his "Audio Perfectionist Journal," not referring to an actual dialogue I have with him.
Tweaks That Don't Work
I'll be posting more about Richard Hardesty's work on other subjects, but he had just a short bit to say about tweaks. Generally, I believe his position was most tweaks are not worth the money spent (I assume directed at commercial tweaks), which ...
Passive/Active preamps: pros and cons....
There's a certain group that advocates passive pre's because they do not "color" the sound - it's like the pre is a volume control and that's it. I've read good things here about the McCormack TLC-1 (see http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?aam...
Audiophile Music Cd's besides Baby Einstein?
My daughter (now 14 months) loves The Wiggles CD's and DVD's. Oddly, at about 4-6 months she really started digging Jimmy Buffet and anything else with a perky - but not too hard or fast - beat.Congratulations, and have fun with that scrapping you...
Tweaks That Don't Work
All: "snake oil" was a terrible choice of words on my part. I was going in the direction of the subsequent language in my post about tweaks that didn't work in your system, or only worked under certain conditions. You guys are absolutely right - j...
Cheap tweaks...What would YOU reccomend?
I agree wholeheartedly with the early suggestion to close your eyes while listening. I find it's the only way I can truly appreciate the soundstage.
