Anyone using Squeezebox server on Mac OS X?
Audiowoman, so you just leave your iMac powered on all the time? Or at least when you want to listen (or use the computer)?
Dumb Question about wi fi
Yes, the wireless router is hooked into the DSL modem. The DSL modem is plugged into the telephone outlet and the router is plugged into her computer. So the Touch could connect over wireless to the router. But could it command the iMac from there?...

Traudio, can you leave the iMac in "Sleep" mode and still access the music files, or do you have to leave it on?
DVD-A player - while they still exist
Yes I would have a backup of course. But I still think the hard drive will crash sooner if I was accessing it for music. Here's why: I sue the computer for at most two hours in a given day. The rest of the time it's asleep. If I were to add a coup...
DVD-A player - while they still exist
I'm assuming I can't afford an Esoteric player, but I'll keep my eyes peeled for a used one.I'm having second thoughts about saddling my new iMac with thousands of music files and accessing them constantly. Surely this will lead to premature hard ...
DVD-A player - while they still exist
OK, I've thought a lot about this and here's what I plan to do: get a Logitech Squeezebox Touch and a suitable DAC, maybe the Naim DAC, but we'll see. I already have an MSB Link DAC so I can get started as soon as I get the Squeezebox. (Although I...
DVD-A player - while they still exist
Wow, thanks for the tips. I'm intrigued by the Arcam and Muse suggestions, as well as the PC scenario.I'm not willing to buy another Denon player, however reliable they've been for Elizabeth. I'm on my second one and it's failing the same way the ...
Review: Nordost Red Dawn Interconnect
I've had Red Dawn 1-meters for several years now. They are nothing special IMO and have been gradually demoted to my least important source, a rarely-used MSB Link DAC which is what I use to hook the TV into the stereo.I can't recommend Red Dawns....
Stupid question
Yes, I meant AC in the general sense of the signal in the speaker cable having positive and negative voltages, not in the sense of a power cable. This was my point initially, that since the signal in the speaker wires is AC, revolving around zero ...
Stupid question
Ha! We're still here. At least I am. Maybe you've all been replaced by duplicates...I switched the red and black on my secondary stereo, a Marantz CD63SE, a Pioneer receiver, some old Infinity SM speakers, and some Monster cable. I played Beck's S...
Best of the new jazz 45rpm reissues
It looks like the only Monk choices available are Alone in San Francisco (which I'm hesitant to get because I like Charlie Rouse's drums on Monk's Best Of CD), The Unique Thelonious Monk, and Mulligan & Monk. I don't see Monk's Music being ava...
Best of the new jazz 45rpm reissues
How about the Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus 45 LP? Any good?
Stupid question
Man, I still haven't had a chance to do this. Rather than destroy my bass amp or the universe, I think I'll merely switch the phase on my secondary stereo, hooking the red to black and the black to red.If the universe ends, you'll know why. Otherw...
Pink Floyd
Who gives a shit if they were "stoners in the studio"? So were the Beatles. And both bands were divine. You think Cream would've been half as good without chemical additives? I doubt it.Dan_ed, are you trying to say you wouldn't listen to a band or...
What time do you wear?
I've seen these in the store and they're beautiful (especially the manual winding Luminor). Does anyone know if they're reliable? I'm surprised no one hear has posted anything about them. They're expensive, but no more so than several of the other...
