Classic records reissue - very disappointing
I've noticed the same thing. I got a Classic reissue of Who's Next and it's terrible. But then again, I have yet to hear a good version of any Who album in any format. Even Zeppelin recordings sound better comparatively, and they're no prize.Meanw...
Most expensive Audio disapoinment?
Magnepan 3.6s playing Pink Floyd (narrowly avoided)Musical Fidelity's "tube buffer" (I fell for this one)And, luckily it wasn't mine, but a local dealer has a McIntosh amp (don't know which one) connected to a dcs DAC and some expensive Focal spea...
Stupid question
It doesn't matter, so long as you connect positive on the amp to positive on the speaker and negative on the amp to negative on the speaker. Kind of like jumping a car battery, but less dangerous if you mess it up.If you do mess them up, it can so...
Warm CD player for older CDs with digital glare?
You might try a NAD M5. My Doors and Zeppelin CDs are tolerable, even pleasant, through that player.I also like the Naims, from the CD5X and up.
Pink Floyd in HI REZ......finally
Too good to be true. Why on earth would they spend time and money creating SACD, Blu Ray, and DVD?I'll believe it when I see it.Until then, their vinyl is very good.
New pressing CSN debut - any good?
Ugh, it was totally warped. They're sending me a replacement.
New pressing CSN debut - any good?
I ordered the 200-gram pressing from acoustic sounds. Thanks for the tip! Can't wait to hear it.
Cars. What does the typical audiophile drive?
Shadorne,I doubt your tastes for accuracy are much different from anyone else's on this forum, as it is an audiophile forum, but who knows?I'm not familiar with the LX 570 system. I remember on my IS F there were a lot of settings, like surround o...
Cars. What does the typical audiophile drive?
You obviously never heard the system in the IS F. It was as good if not better than my ARC gear at home. It was by no means "one note bass" but supremely musical. It even had multichannel DVD-A. I can't imagine how you've come up with that assessm...
So, what DON'T you spend money on?
No boat, no Ducati, no Porsche, no children.
AXPONA 2011 Atlanta reports/thoughts?
The Wharfedale / Musical Fidelity room was a revelation to me. I can't believe those were $1200 speakers and a $1500 integrated.I liked the YG speakers too.I noticed a lot of the music was awful, at least to my taste. Not a big opera fan. Or broad...
What time do you wear?
Bell & Ross BR03-92 and Baume et Mercier Capeland are my two good ones. I have a cool Casio Wave-ceptor too! I love watches.
Cars. What does the typical audiophile drive?
Wow, I expected to see a bunch of Porsches and Audis. I'm glad I'm not the only one on here who's not rich.1. My daily is a 2010 Camaro SS.2. My next will either be a Corvette, a 911, a Jaguar XK(R?), or an MB SL. (I'm assuming I'll be somewhat ri...
Best format for SteelyDan...
I think I read somewhere that Katy Lied was messed up by a faulty dbx noise compressor in the studio. I got the impression that even the master tapes aren't up to snuff because of this incident, but they didn't have the heart to re-record it.So yo...
Favorite version of Grateful Dead's Aiko Aiko?
I have to say, I like the Belle Stars version and the Dead's from Crimson White & Indigo best so far. Warren Zevons is a little crazy, at least the fast version they have on amazon.
