switching between unique amps using biwire posts?
Jfiluk - the build quality was poor and my big MIT speaker cables had a hard time staying connected with those cheap push-type connectors so I hardly used it.
JM Labs Electra 937Be vs.Diva Utopia Be vs. Mezzo
As an owner of 926s, I agree with Glai that these speakers are particularly sensitive to associated equipment. I have been very surprised at how I hear every change I make, even a single cable in the chain.I feel certain that in some cases, people...
switching between unique amps using biwire posts?
I don't have good answers either - although some of it will depend on the amp designs I think. If the amps don't have an output relay (I think only pro audio does this), you will be paralleling a tough output impedance load with the speaker which ...
Classe Modifications
Having compared the 47.5 to the previous CP50, I can tell you the 50 is a clear improvement - especially in soundstaging. Classe made a wrong turn with the 47.5...but it did cost less. I would get a 50 and forget about making time-consuming mods. ...
Blinded by the Lights
I agree the Carys are bright. I don't know why so many do that. I dabbed a speck of black Sharpie on a couple of my components' LEDs and it works like a charm! Can't even tell - it just looks dimmer and only takes 1.5 seconds. Arthur
hales transcendence 5 and mcintosh mc 300 advice.
Actually, you can hook it up to whichever tap you like better. You won't damage anything either way. You are right - the sound does change when going to a different tap. The lowest one available will give you the least distortion (on paper) so tha...
mcintosh & big $ interconnects
I hear differences with cables in my system. They are subtile but very noticible in some cases - like when I compared Kimber PBJs with my MIT T2s between MC7200 and a C712. In blind testing with my roommate (who is not into audio) we could consist...
Issues With McIntosh C2200 Balanced Input
Being a balanced or unbalanced design should not make a difference. I have never had this problem with my McIntosh preamps and I have used them with balanced and unbalanced CD players. I think it is something related to the Wadia than the McIntosh...
McIntosh MC252 with Totem Mani2 / Sig's
Congratulations! I wish I could say the same as you. What were your thoughts on the sound comparison between the 252 and 402? I guess you felt the 252 was good enough but i wonder to what degree. Thanks.
Macintosh binding post
There are adapters sold on ebay that work really well. They are entirely gold plated and convert the barrier strip screws to banana sockets. Seller was in Japan I think. I used them on all my vintage Mc amps to great effect. Arthur
McIntosh MC252 with Totem Mani2 / Sig's
Your room is small. The room I auditioned the 252 in was 30' x 35'. This room size will have more impact on the power requirement than the speaker impedance difference, I believe. I don't think that the 803 is really considered that easy a load.Bu...
McIntosh MC252 with Totem Mani2 / Sig's
Going by the way I heard the 252 rock out on N803s in a huge room, I don't think it will have any problems with the Totems. Besides, if there ever was a problem, the McIntosh will protect itself and your speakers - something not a lot of other amp...
"The Law of Diminishing Returns"???
Forget the pricing. As Driver says, it is all about synergy - between your components as well as between your stereo and your ears. The ones hung up on cost can have it. Experimenting will yield far greater results than going by pricing hierarchy....
Pass X150 or CJ MF 2500,,,
If you like tube midrange, I would get the CJ. The X150 is a very different animal.
Budget tuner?
I love my cheap Sony 550ES tuner. Also get a Magnum Dynalab ST2 antenna - makes a huge difference. Arthur
