Amplification for Totem Forests
The Totem Amber. Incredible and rare integrated that is made to match the Forests. They sound wonderful together. I happen to know a guy who is selling one. Let me know if you would be interested.Otherwise, Classe amps compliment Forests very well...
Amp that has continuously variable bias?
What you are talking about is called "sliding bias." Some of the Krells do this (the ones with names that end in an "S") although I don't think the new ones do. YBA also uses this scheme and a few others that I can't think of right now. It is a go...
Bookshelves for McIntosh ma6300 Integrated?
I have been very impressed with the MA6300. Both times I heard it, I thought it sounded incredible for the money. I would recommend B&W 805S if you like a tight, fast, detailed sound. If you prefer a big, rich, powerful sound, then look at some...
Tube vs Tran
Come on in! No need to stand out in the cold! There is more to it than a simple tube or trans amp can give you. When you put a stereo together with $3000 components, you have to be careful what you choose to live together. Not everyone gets along w...
To biwire or not to biwire, that is the question??
The way I understand it is that the more separation you have between the two (biwire) signal paths, the better. So two pairs of speaker cables from an amp with a single pair of outputs, to a biwire speaker, should sound better than one pair of cab...
Maddening HUMMMM
I have had Mike's experience as well. A bad RCA jack ground will cause just what you describe. I've had it happen with cables (pulling them out by the wire is a bad habit...) but a bad jack in the amp will do it too. But if you've changed amps alr...
Mcintosh c220 with 20 year old Citation 22 ?
Hey Entdoc - so much for waiting a few months, right? lol! I don't blame you, the MC252 is a stellar amp. You made a great choice of equipment - McIntoshes work super well with B&W speakers in my experience.Arthur
Bi-amping with 2 2ch amps
Vertical biamping. Hook up the highs of one speaker to one pair of amp outputs and then hook up the lows for the same speaker to the other pair of outputs on the same amp. So you have each amp powering one full speaker. Should sound great!Arthur
downsize from ARC CD3 MKII to $1500 CDP happily?
If you enjoy the sound of your ARC, you won't really like the Benchmark IMO. I personally don't and prefer the sound of the ARC which is quite different. I would suggest you look at an Audio Aero Prima mk2 or mk3. They have a similar style to your...
Pros and cons for loading Totem Forest
My neighbor loaded his Forests. The bass really improved - tighter response and more solid extension. But his room is small so the bass quality plays a large role. If you have a big room, the change might not be so significant. He didn't want to ha...
Shindo VS Doshi
Check the archives. I remember a thread with basically the same title a few weeks back.
Tube Amp Technical Question
If the biasing is manual, did you check it? Otherwise, it sounds to me like you will need to contact the manufacturer about this one.Arthur
What is a preamp?
Don't forget the buffering effect of a preamp because a preamp is an amp. That is probably its main advantage other than volume control and switching. In most cases, the preamp actually runs below unity gain, which means that depending on the desi...
Hooverphonic anyone?
Anyone seen smokeys with ears on? :)I love all the Hooverphonics, as well as all the DePhazz, Tricky, Waldeck, Basement Jaxx, Photek, Pieter K, Air, and Kruder & Dorfmeister albums.Arthur
Goodbye CD's
The same thing was said about vinyl in the 1980s.Meanwhile, I sure wish CD prices would come down!!Arthur
