About your music collection I have found that many people don't know how good a stereo can sound. I have friends who had never really heard or owned anything above a basic system, despite their love for music as musicians in bands. When they heard my stereo, they were so imp...
Idiotic Vertical Biamping Question Aggielaw - An amp doesn't "think" about what it sees. It only sees what it's hooked up to and that is it. Each channel is on its own and has no idea what the other is doing (this is not absolutely true because of capacitive coupling but in the gra...
How many use Vintage Hi-Fi systems? I use a 1961 McIntosh MC240. That is my only piece of vintage gear today but I absolutely love it. I had a pair of Klipsch Heresy I for a while too but since sold them.Arthur
Help me in the right direction, new speakers In a room of that size, I feel you need a floorstander to get enough bass to "feel" the music and not have the treble left high and dry. In my experience (my room is very similar size), you need a speaker that can go below 40Hz at -3dB.The number ...
System to system No, you can't. The reason is that you will have the amp's output impedance in parallel with your speaker AND the other amp's output impedance. This will cause too many issues to be useful. I assume your Sansui has crappy wire jacks for the speaker...
Isolating CDP from weak wood floor I have one spot in my music room that if anyone bounces on it, my CD players skip - unless I use some Artgum erasers. Nothing else has worked like them. You can find them at hobby/craft stores for like $0.80 a piece. This brand is the softest and ...
McIntosh MC402 or MC501's for Totem Mani-2 I have to agree with Florian. I can't even begin to say how much difference I have found between amplifiers at low volumes. Output power is only a tiny part of the amplifier's character and high-end amp design is much more art than science (I am a...
Your Second System I specifically design for a different style. Unless you spend vast quantities of money, it is very hard to get a system that does everything equally well. That is the way Nature requires it. I listen to all types of music from folk, to techno, to ...
The best hifi magazine? I read them all and Hifi+ is the best IMO. Although "Haute Fidelite" (from France) is excellent as well. The worst IMO is TAS. Arthur
McIntosh MC402 or MC501's for Totem Mani-2 I really don't think you need more power than a MC402. Those speakers start to compress at 110dB which takes less than 320W of power to reach. The 402 sounds extremely similar to the 501s anyway. Enjoy your new McIntoshes!Arthur
SS Preamp with Balance Control My McIntosh C42 sounds sublime and has a wonderful balance control.Arthur
Bookshelf speakers ? With a 7150, you need a speaker with a clear and extended treble to get the most neutral balance. In this case, I highly recommend the JM Lab Electra 906. Incredible speaker for the used price.Arthur
Grounding the system I have grounded all 7 of my components' chassis together. This has been sufficient to reduce the differential chassis voltages from a maximum of 35mV to about 2mV. Both of my preamps have a particularly low resistance between their chassis and AC ...
What speakers to get? Focal or B&W Bar81 - A room that is suited to Studios and Altos will not be successful with 1037Bes. Your dealer may have mated great gear to them but then he failed on the most obvious and important of matters: mating the speaker to an appropriately-sized roo...
Best Suited Preamp For A McIntosh MC2500?? Try both preamps and see what you think. There is no substitute for your own opinion. If you really want one that I find great, get a McIntosh C42. Enjoy your new McIntoshes!Arthur |
