Advice from vinyl types on a good CD player
I have to echo Tom - the Classe CDP202 and the ARC CD7 (and the CD3 as well) are stellar players. If I could afford them over my Audio Aero Prima mk2, I would get one of them for sure.Other great options are the Burmester line of CD players. Not c...
Lexicon RV8 vs McIntosh MHT200: best for 2 chnl?
I heard some concert DVDs in an HT system using the MHT200 and I was knocked out. It was the first multichannel experience I thought was great. The soundstage was most impressive! It actually felt like a space rather than sounds coming from all di...
Warm Interconnects
I also have a pair of Monster M1000i. They are a great buy for sure. They lack a tiny bit of articulation when compared head-to-head with the Cardas Crosslink but they have a more open midrange.Another great warm cable is the van den Hul First Ult...
Question on speaker sensitivity / power.
The 50W max rating means the drivers can't handle a ton more power than that. However, the amount of time spent at that power level plays a large role in determining potential damage - and yet the specs say nothing of this. Is it 50W continuous or...
best inexpensive tube integrated
Gotta give a Consonance M100Plus a try. Killer for the money. For nicer build and looks, the Cayin T30 is really good but doesn't quite have the resolution of the M100. I had a Jolida 202 for a while and thought it was barely OK in comparison. Arthur
Preamps with two pairs of balanced outs?
The latest McIntosh and Audio Research do.Arthur
What's the best player or contender's under $1k?
The 1072 is nice but my Audio Aero Prima mk2 can be had used for $1k and it is a way more refined machine. It makes the 1072 sound mechanical and digital. The Rega Apollo is also quite good but lacks deep bass - which may or may not be a problem.
Preamp help needed - max $ 2500
The McIntosh C2200 or the DeHavilland Ultraverve 2 are my recommendations. I had a Rogue Magnum 99 and it was terrible.Arthur
why do peple think ipods are just for bkgrd music
Yep, the software is the problem. I've heard ipod music in my system and I thought it sounded rather poor.Arthur
McIntosh MA6600 voiced simular to MC402?
My guess is that the 6600 is better than the 6900 because the two new integrateds are based on the Reference circuits. The 6900 was a great amp but you had to be careful to match it to speakers that weren't soft or slow. The 7000 is not that way a...
How to get the most out of TV audio?
I use the stereo out jacks straight to my preamp (I don't have an external DAC or I would do that) and it sounds great so long as I use analytical cables. The feed is a little soft sounding but can be corrected with cables. I use MIT T2 and find t...
Might operating a 50Hz unit at 60Hz affect sound?
I agree with Joey. You should be just fine.Arthur
McIntosh MA6600 voiced simular to MC402?
I've heard the 402 a bunch and listened to the MA7000 a few weeks ago for a long time. I haven't heard the 6600 yet but the MA7000 is the one to compare a 402+Cxx to anyway. All I can say is the 7000 was really a special amp. I heard it on Avalons...
Jadis amplifiers: rolled off treble?
I have heard lots of Jadis gear and never felt like the top end was rolled off. Natural, yes; rolled off, no.Like any tube amps - and especially so for those without feedback - the speaker/amp interaction is everything. Choose the wrong speaker an...
Cables Are Crazy, what do you think?
Tell him to read up on triboelectric noise and get back to you.Arthur
