Which AV Reciever to run Bose 901's,
With Bloes 901s does it really matter?
is it the connector or the wire ?
If that's what you believe, given your track record here, no one is going to change your mind.
Merlin VSM-mm's a good value at $3000 used?
Bobby: I worked with one of your most trusted dealers in setting up my VSM-SEs and in choosing ancillary equipment. So, no, I wasn't using the speakers with retreads. Not even close. With your speakers, it seems to make the most sense to start fro...
Merlin VSM-mm's a good value at $3000 used?
Boa2: That wasn't my experience when I tried to sell my VSM-SEs. Everyone wants the latest greatest. If it's not, they either don't want it at all or they'll give you about 20 percent of what the cost was new.
Merlin VSM-mm's a good value at $3000 used?
Bobby: I did a search and couldn't find anything, but please refresh us on how many updates/model changes you have made to the VSM, which started out at being something like $4,000 or $4,500. When that happens, no one wants the obsolete version. H...
Preamplifier: Yes or NO ?
Thanks, Newbee. The fact Mrtennis continues to post here is baffling. Maybe he likes the abuse.Actually, Mrtennis, some opinions are indeed more useful than those of others. Yours, for instance. You have to establish some credibility before people...
Preamplifier: Yes or NO ?
Mrtennis: What is "solor?" Regardless, you offer no proof -- just your opinion, which, given your stated preferences, isn't worth a great deal to many of us in Audiogon Land.I have found that a Wadia 861 SE with the Great Northern Sound Company Re...
what is good sound ?
Newbee: It's no intrusion at all. Of course there are varying degrees of accuracy. It's nothing like being unique -- it's either unique or it isn't. You're right about that. Take two pairs of speakers that are identical in every way -- waterfall p...
what is good sound ?
Jax2: Accuracy isn't subjective. It's either accurate or it isn't, at least to varying degrees, and perhaps few people are able to make that determination. You have to know what an instrument is supposed to sound like before you can know if a repr...
what is good sound ?
Newbee: I never said anything about having the cellist come to my house. Again, you either know how a live piano, cello, flute, bassoon etc. sounds or you don't. You don't necessarily have to do a rapid A-B comparison to know whether a system is d...
what is good sound ?
Newbee: Mrtennis has one solution, but it really isn't so complicated. You either know what a cello sounds like or you don't. Forget whether you're two feet away or two miles away. If you've been around live acoustic music and have paid attention ...
what is good sound ?
Newbee: Compare it to a reference: live unamplified vocals or instruments. In addition to possessing the obviously necessary hearing acuity, a person has to have reference points. He or she has to know how instruments really sound. Then find album...
what is good sound ?
Marco: Accuracy isn't subjective. Personal preference, obviously, is subjective, but many of us don't care what someone else thinks "sounds good." That person may like exaggerated bass or treble, which is not at all true to the source. Or that per...
Thiels or Von Schweikerts
My vote goes to Von Schweikert, too, for many of the reasons noted by Mjaudio. As a bonus, they're way more efficient than Thiels, so you don't have to spend megabucks on an amp capable of driving them.
VSA VR4 SR or JR as a match to my system and room
Try Brian at Sound and Cinema in Knoxville. Unless something has changed, he is a dealer -- and not too far away.
