Speaker binding posts with plastic covers

My Krell amplifier has speaker binding posts with the clear plastic covers. Apparently these are for EU safety requirements. I want to use spade connectors and have no idea how to open these covers. I’ve wrestled with them but they don’t budge. I don’t even know whether they unscrew or pull out or whether there is some other method at play. Does anyone have experience with these?

just unscrew... they may be screwed on tight from the factory,,, work them loose with a firm but gentle hand

They unscrew, but not the whole thing. The spade actually goes between the bracket looking portion. If you are trying to unscrew the entire thing you will break it. Just unscrew from the top of the connector. Should unscrew pretty easily,

They DO NOT unscrew! You CANNOT use spades with these.

The crimper is for the bare end of a multi-strand wire. It ’melds’ (by crimping pressure) the individual strands into a semi-solid strand to then insert (like a banana pin) into the connector. (cut your spades off?)

there are two torx set-screws on the side of the connector. Tighten them to hold the now crimped wire end within the connector.

To remove wire: simply loosen the two set screws.

The solder is for the other end, inside the enclosure before tightening in place. You can solder the wire end after crimping it if you want to.

This $12. gizmo looks a whole lot like their $166. crimper

These 5 way binding posts unscrew (the type you and others are thinking of),

  • Accepts up to 8 AWG wire, banana plugs, forks, spades, and speaker pins

they are ’mini’ size, smaller outer diameter to fit where/when nearby obstacles prevent the larger outer diameter of standard ones.

not sure, your spades might be too large for these mini sized ones.

IF your speaker cables are expensive, the connectors on the Krell could be changed
