Daisy Chaining Speakers

Hi, im looking for some advice.

I have a Vonyx  passive pa speaker system and im wondering if i could daisy chain a third speaker to use as an on stage monitor.

Here is a link to the SL10 passive speakers.

Also, if i can chain a third speaker, would it have to be passive or could i use an active speaker?

Thanks in advance.

It is safe to daisy chain passive speakers but not very good.

The reason is that speakers are not pure resistors, in addition to ruining the effective damping factor.

Speakers have impedance peaks and valleys, and a peak in one speaker means a depression in output in another.  This will also cause overall output level mismatching.

You can parallel or series wire speakers to get the impedance you need or want.

Hello coolrekz.  If they are active speakers, you can connect them to your amp's preamp out or even tape out jacks (if your active speakers have a volume control. That would work well but you must have AC (wall outet) power available at the location of you active speakers.

If you must connect them to your loudspeaker's connections, put them in series at first and test them. This puts a minimum load on the amp and if the resluts are satsfactory - great! They will play louder than your home speakes in all likleyhood. If your home speakers are 4 ohms, putting the new ones in parallel risks straining the amp with a load that is too low in impedence and may drain more power than the amp can safely supply. Pllay it safe.

Keep Smiling!
