Accuphase E-470

Hi I am looking at a Accuphase e-470 for sale ,but it is a Japanese model so will need a transformer to power it to our AC, is there any problem with using a transformer.Any opinions on the amp would be helpful. I am using a Prima Luna Hp integrated amp with KT 150 tubes,& Focal 1028 BE speakers, I find that at lower volume it does not have much punch. I have to turn it up to sound good, I am thinking a good SS amp give me more at lower volume, Any other suggestions on integrated amps new or used under 5k ? Thanks Lloyd.

If you’re looking at $5k, I would check out the new NAD M33 integrated, it has a (supposedly) revolutionary Purifi Class D SS 200 wpc amp, Dirac Live room correction, high quality DAC, and the BlueOS for streaming.  According to a recent inquiry at NAD’s customer service, I was told they’d be shipping end of August, and September.
there is a ytube vid from alpha Audio yday  with 5 integrated amps on a Vocal speaker. Have a look there to find out, what amps are a great match with Vocal speakers. Tube amp seems to be not a good match.
You also will not be able to obtain service (rarely needed) from Accuphase or distributor if you buy a Japanese version.

Find one sold buy a US dealer/Distributor (Axxis Audio)

i have owned, and still own many Accuphase products and fortunately never need service. Sound, looks, design, build quality...killer

I regret the day I sold my stack of Accuphase components to my nephew.  I have had several really great systems and my Accuphase stack was probably the best (until my newest and latest BAT system).  Accuphase has a wonderful sonic signature and the build quality is superb.  However, I really don't recommend buying any unit that is not made for the U.S. electrical system.  If you really want Accuphase then search for a U.S. model.
The Focal speaker line is rather efficient, most models at 92db efficiency, and delivers very good "slam" at low volume.  But of course, "slam" is relative to what one desires.  I personally like my music to be played with some good current delivery and, thus, keep the volume up a bit getting me some good slam.  Upscale Audio sells a ton of Prima Luna combined with Focal speakers.  That seems to be their go-to speaker brand when selling PL integrated amps or component amps.  Be sure that you are connecting the speaker cables to the correct taps on the PL amp.  For those speakers the speaker cables should be connected to the 8 ohm taps.  Unless I am incorrect, I believe that your speakers are 8 Ohms, nominal.  Check the speaker specification, check your connections, then try some more listening, just to be certain.
Good luck on your quest.
