Vandie .7 vs Maggie .7

Hello to all! I am hoping I will get some opinions on these 2 speakers. I’m 65...a Pro musician with a degree in music. I’ve own of equipment for sure. Nothing in the Mega buck range. I did own a par of Maggie III’s 25 years ago. Vandersteen’s are really a brand I have never owned or stopped at a dealer or known someone who owned them.

I know opinions are GOING to vary. These are kinda 2 different speakers...but a similar approach. Maggie flat panel, and Vandie "no baffe.

I have an NAD 326BEE integrated amp..( very decent)....I’m about to spring for a Schiit Vidar. I have an MF V90,,Schiit Saga... I own Whafdale Diamond 240’s.

I was also set to pop for the Vidar and got into a discussion with someone at Schiit, and he generally said, looking at speakers/ headphones are usually a bigger change. So started my re-evaluation.

These are the 2 I am down too. I have 1400-1500 to spend. True-ness of timbre, soundstage are most important ot me ...because I have listened and played live music since I was 15.

I do very much appreciate your opinions. I want member to BE subjective and give me your take based on personal experience. Thank you very much, Otto

The mighty 7 use gold plated soft buss bar terminal strip cause he can’t find ANYTHING better at any $$$$, so do the model 7 amps

every speaker in Line uses the terminal for an excellent reason IMO

just do the math on contact area cause you know those banana plugs deform

i use them when I have 2

Bob and TOM,,,got it  Locked and loaded! 2 hours ago I cut off the Bi-wire bananas and used the Audioquest Silver ( reuseable) Bananas to combine into one. Here's the model of this connector Audioquest Suregrip 100 BFA's. I WILL order their heavy duty silver plated spaces and I will redo the wires. Back in the day... this kind of attention to detail was so much fun...like listening to different kinds of solder >..when Wonder Solder was the BuZZ. So.... I'll be listening with the BFA's   and then have the chance to report back on the spades and what difference they are going to make!! Back some comments, I said I was going to change Sub's; to my M&K MX125  its a dual 12''s in a push pull configuration. I'm running a cd on repeat for a few hours and will go and listen a little later tonight.. On listening to 1 track, I like the MK....its been sitting in my PC system all along...using the HSU crossover and their sub. John, I am running the sub from a 2nd output for the Schiit SAGA..line level.. and controlling the bass level and xover point manually right at my listening perch. I have the sub close to me. I think this is going to be MUCH BETTER,,,until I can get the VANDY  sub.

I'k looking at stands next. I might take some lumps here... but not willing to spend 600.00 on sound anchors..I was looking at Pangea  they have a regular weight and a heavy weight..**249.00 for the heavy,,,reviews are very good and say these stands are HEAVY... much more in my range....I will either fill with sand and or shot. I am convinced better stands will add more definition. So I have a few new things going on. I wish I could POP for the Ayre Codex I see 3 for sale,,,just can't right now. I will sell the V90..and I am selling on Craigslist my recent pair of Wharfedale Diamond 240;s  for 650.00 I'm on board for the Codex!

Combining all the wires made a nice difference....MK sub is better all the way around.

Gentlemen all,

  Fellow audio buddy got a pair 1.7's+ pair of their new sub woofers.

in Dec. He hook them up to his Mark Leve's 100 W per Ch. Run low level db brown noise sound thru them 48 hr's not stop. A/B his Golden Ear 2+'s

1.7's sounded thinner, less dynamic. 2 wk's went by>burn in time.

Better, but still not as full a rounded of rich in tones as GE's.

BUT!!  Then another in our audio group brought his new SAE 2 H.P.

amp over= 1,000 watts per ch.. DYMANIC'S> CLARITY alike I've never, never every experienced from any stereo set-up close to these speakers in this price range. Hot rodder's already new this formula.
