Vintage DD turntables. Are we living dangerously?

I have just acquired a 32 year old JVC/Victor TT-101 DD turntable after having its lesser brother, the TT-81 for the last year.
TT-101
This is one of the great DD designs made at a time when the giant Japanese electronics companies like Technics, Denon, JVC/Victor and Pioneer could pour millions of dollars into 'flagship' models to 'enhance' their lower range models which often sold in the millions.
Because of their complexity however.......if they malfunction.....parts are 'unobtanium'....and they often cannot be repaired.

I responded to K's post over on his own thread.  Suffice to say I too am very grateful to JP, for his work on my TT101 and eventually for replacing the so far no problem MN6042 in my Mk3 with his discrete circuit.  I've posted here on my interaction with JP in the past.

That's great about the MK-III Kmccarty. How much do the chips sell for?

If anyone is interested there's a TT-81 on eBay as well as an Exclusive motor unit.
QL8 you're referring to?

Sorry if you're referring to that, he was dead, left some time for sale and then sold these days.

Just to clarify the above posts the Victor TT-81 Japan 100 volt drive only, is the JVC N.A. 115 volt QL8, that was supplied with a plinth and an arm.
